Disposal of Estate.
Mr. Justice Riddell has -given de-
rision in the matter of the estste of
Thoma. Stubbies, of the towushlp of
Hawick, in regard to Which a [notion
was wade on behalf of Rather Mule
bins and James Thomas Stubbin..
The will of Themes SUrbbins was
Snide oo--Marc-h- 20p MI. and he died
on July 12 of that year. One of the
eons, Henry Willi oil Stubbins, is
alleged to have disappeared. hayyiog
been last heard of at Liverpool four-
teen years ago, and the applicants
wanted him. declared .lead. The will
direct.d that if one of the sons died his
share should be disposed of to the other.
James Thomas Stubbins died on Oc-
tober 12, 10N. and his %lite. Esther.
and son, Janne. Thomas Stubbins,
junior, are the applicants, the latter
living at Ai sew River, Manitoba.
Mr. Justice Riddell declines to grant
en order declaring Henry %Wlianl
Stubbing deed and making a disposal
of his share, but directs the admin•
istration of the estate. with reference
to the Master at Goderich.

the history of the firm is strikingly

len's early business life was spent in

cessful business career as the head of
one of the -largest whole .ale tewelle y
houses in the world. His first hnsi-
nem association in t'hli ago was in
1885 with the house of M. T. Quimby
& Co., to which flint he was ail uritted
a partner in ISMS Two years later
the firm was reorganized under the
name of Stark & Allen, who were
burned out in the great fire of 1N71.
While the ruins of the city were still
smoking the firm rented quarters At
1Vahssh avenue and Harrison street.
Shortly after Mr. Allen bought the
interest of Mr. Stark and the firm
name was changed to Benj. Allen &
Co„ the business being them removed
to State street. In IMUS Mr. Ailen
and his associates selected a location
on Wabash avenue and erected the
magnificent Silversmith's building,
which has been the home of the firm
up to the present time. They now oc-
cupy practically two stories of this,
great building."
A Win for the Ladies.
The return conceit in the contest
between the young ladies alid the
young men of the congregation of
Victoria street Methodist church took
place in the auditorium of the church
on Thursday evening Inst. This was
the entertainment got up by the young
ladies, and, under the incentive of the
success of the concert of some• weeks
stip prepared by the young nem. the
ladies spared no pains or effort in the
attempt to go one better, and that
they did go one better w -as the decision
of the judges appointed to decide on
the relative merits of the two per-
formances. The judges were Mr..
Millyard, J. H. Milhan and Walter
