esday, the 21st inet., occurred the
trdesth of one of the old pioneers of this
district, in the person of Duncan Me -
Rae, at the extremely advanced age of
ninety -nix seats; = hinalteoet. venters

mien was torn in Rosahir•, on the
west coast of Scotland. in the year
1812, only a few months after Nitwit -
eon's disastrous retreat from Moisrow.
The deceased when a young man
grated to this country and ultimately
settled in Lochalsh, where with
arduous labor he took his part in le -
claiming the land from the forest
lprimeval. He was physically of
arge stature. and although he haul
had a 1' 'led education this want.
was In a great messing-. compensated
for by his natural abilities. He wam
much respected, being of an honest
and upright character. The deceased
WOW a member of Ashfleld Presby-
terian church and a strong adherent
of the old school of Scottish Presbyter-
ianism, which is fast disappearing in
the present age. Ile rel ain.d his fac-
ulties to taw bit, and there was a re-
markeble etheence of that inental seni-
lity more nr less common to persons
of his advaneeel age. He wen tate..
married, and is survived by three or
the first family and five of the second.
The remains were interred in Lochalsh
cemetery on Friday, the 23rd inst., in
the presence of a large number of
friends and acquaintances, Rev. Mr.
McLennan, of Kinloss, conducting
the funeral service.
