CHARGES AGAINST CANTIN.
St. Joseph Promoter Before Magistrate
at Tomato.
Narcieae M. Cantln, the well-known
promoter of Ht. Joseph, on the lake
shote south of Ooderich, was arrested
last week and taken to Toronto to
answer charges of perjury

the promoter of the now famous city
of St. Jueeph bituated on the rhea's of
Lake Huron, was brought to the city

Knighton.' today pleaded not guilty
to two charges of perjury and one of

barrister. He elected, through his
counsel, .1. W. Curry, K. C., to go be-
fore a jury.

Mr. Curry was very anxious to have
some preliminary evidence taken,
either that of Mr. Gallagher or Mr.
('antin. Ibis plea was that it was un-
fair to Mr. Contin to keep hire long
in jail. His Worship's refusal to open
the case till the Crown has all its evi-
dence ready made Mr. Curry very
much annoyed.
