Stove Polish Took etre.
Miss Emnta Hill, of Exeter, was the
victim of a very manful accident last
week. She was engaged in cleaning
the kitchen stove when the dish of
polish which she war holding caught
fire, the flamer being cammuolested
to her clothing. Her screams brought
the initiates of the house to her rescue,
but not before her hands and sides
were badlv burn
Harry Kay's 'Death.
Lest week the citizens of Illyth
were rhol:ked to learn of the death of
a former well-known resident, Harry
Kelly, of Vaughn, Louisiana, who
along with two others was shot while
acting as a peacemaker in a quarrel.
Deceased was married to a daughter
of John Brown, of Blyth. Only a
week ago Mrs. Kelly's sister, Mies
Lizzie Brown, left to visit her and
word was received from her saying
that she arrived safely at her destina-
tion.
The Londesboro' Hotel.
The feu.ppcernnce people of the vicin-
ity of Londerbori have purchased the
hotel at that place and are organizing
a joint stock company to hold it so
that it may be conducted as a temper-
ance house. Londesboro' is in the
local option township of Hullett, and
hotel accouunrdetion has been u burn-
ing question in the community. The
temperance people purchar d the
house at 132.300 from itlr. Bruce, who
stated that 1t cost hint $.5J%J(* four
years ago.
A Pioneer of Stanley. •
One of the honored pioneers of Stan-
ley, in the person of John Cunrit, of
Bills Green, peered to t(is long home
on 'Tuesday of last week. Deceased
had been in poor health for saute time
but his recovery was expected. He
was sitting at his breakfast table when
the Heavenly Messenger knocked at
his door. Deceased was a man of in-
dustry and unswerving iutegrity.

Ethel Loses Two Residents.
On Saturday. the 1Sth inst.. the
Master's call came with startling sud-
denness to one of the neat esteemed
residents of Ethel. in the person of
Mrs. Andrew Mclnnis. Deceased,
who was forty-nine years of age, was
held in affectionate regard by a large
circle of acquaintance*. She leaves
her husband. one son and one daugh-
ter to mourn her removal frolu their
midst. The following Thursday the
death angel again took toll from the
7illage, bearing away the spirit of
Eliztheth Stuhbe, beloved -.wife of
John M. Davies.

some time the residents of the village
of Whitechurch, in Fret Wawanosb,
.l local option township, have sus-
pected that John Campbell, proprie-
tor of the hotel in the village, wan do-
ing quire a business in the sale of in-
toxicating drinks. Provincial COD -

searched the hotel, finding a quantity

DeAth of John Sprang, Hallett.

Huller t, in the person of .Iohn Sprung,
entered into his rest on Wednesday,

of dropsy for some time and though
his,death was sudden it was not unex-
pected. Born in Prince Edward
county eighty-fourears ago. the
deceased came to Hulett in 1St1$ and
settled on the farm on the Base line
where he passed the remainder of his
daps His honesty and geniality won
for him the esteem of all with whom
he bad to do. One son, Fitzallan, in
Manitoba, and three daughters, Mrs.
.1. Cunningham. of Brussels: Mrs. H.
(levier and Mrs. S. Cox, of Hallett,
mourn his departure.
Death of Mrs. Paul. Winglamr
On Saturday, the 1Sth inst., the
angelic messenger summoned to her
reward one of the most esteemed
residents of Wingham, in the person
of Christina Stewart. relict of the late
George Paul. Deceased, who was in
her seventy-sixth year, lived in the
vicinity of Whitechurch prior to her
removal to Winghami some twenty
years ago. A woutan of noble char
acter and charming personality, she
endeared herself to all who knew her.
Two daughters. Mrs. C. Gillespie, of
\Vingham, and Mrs. (Rev.) Sanderson,
of Muncey, formerly of Whitechurch,
and three sone, James ahs Alex., it
the West, and Bev. George Paul, of
Winnipeg, are left to mourn her
demise.
Mail Bags Recovered.
The other day an John Henn and
Chas. Alderson, of Cranhro,,k, were
loading wool in front of ht 13, con-
cession It, (trey townshil., they dis-
covered the niAil bangs /stolen from
Brussels postofficc on October 20th
when the °Mee was robbed, Some of
the wood had been removed and re;
placed upon the bag by the robbers,
in addition to two drawers belonging
to the safe, the keys and tin box in
which the postage stamps were kept,
all Mr. Far•row's ;irivate papers were
found. intact, excepting one note. Of
course there vote no money or stamps,
the thieves tatting gocxl ogre of that
department. The find came as *great
surprise to all concerned and indicates
the early part of the route taken by
the robbers. Messrs. Rana end Alder-
son brought the beg and its contents
to Porttmaeter Farrow, who is now in
p.ossesaion. Whether the discovery
will prove helpful in locating the mid-
night prowlers remains to be seen.
