The death of George Hesk, a well-
known t•osident of Hullett. occurred at

Buried Under Pile of Wood.
Peculiarly sad Was the death of
Hobert Grey, a respected elderly resi-
dent of Ailsa Craig, which occurred
in that place on Monday the'2.3rd ult.
On the morning of the previous Tues-
day the deceased haul gone to his shed
to split wood. when a heavy pile fell
on him. From 1) o'clock Tuesday
morning until (i o'clock in the after-
noon of the following day he lay
buried beneath it, and if it had not
leen for the insistent mooing of his
cow, which attracted a neighl.or's at-
tention, he would undoubtedly have

Commercial hotel of this place, which
has leen closed for Bowe time, thus

opened as a temperance house, has
been reuovated, and is now in a posi-
tion to afford good accommodation to
the travelling public. The com-
mercial travellers, especially, will be
pleased to learn this, as ter the past
few months they have had some dif•
ficulty in securing accommodation in
the village.
Death of Mas. Hern, Winchelsea.
The death on Thursday. December
:Doth, of Sophia Wall, wife of Thomas
Vern, \Viuchelsea, remove I one of
1'si,orue's early pioneer and one of
its molt beloved and respected citi-
zens. The deceased ems born in Corn-
wall, England, seventy-two years ago,
and came to Canada at the ago of

James Stevens. who died three year

by her husband and the following
