THE COUNTY COUNCILS BILL.
Under the system of representation
proposed by the count)'('0uncils hill
now before the Legislature, the c181111-
ly clamed of Huron will have thirty-
one member:. in place of sixteen as at
present. Each of the twenty-six
union'. Municipalities n( the county
will be represented by its reeve, and
in addition the townships of :.h -
Held, Grey, Hawick and Stephen and
the town of Gode1•ich will each lie rep-
resented by a deputy reeve. these
municipalities being the (only ones in
the county containing more than one
thousand riders.
\We append figures showing the
population and the her of munie -
ipnl voters in each of the minor mun-
icipalities. It will be seen that the
new system in a very marked degree
throws aside the principle of 4(pre-
hl•ntttion according jou population.
The village of \\-rlxeter, with a popu-
lation of 411. will have equal repre-
sentation with the township of HM-
V., which has a population of 2,4411.
t1' y township. with a immolation of
3 , will have two repreaeutatives,
and ay. with a population of 3,':915,
ill h ye only our. A p4)pulxtion of
illi, cc npriseel in the villages of Baly-
eld, He .•ill and %Wroxete,, will have
hree" rept .. illative» : while several
ingle mum •ipalities with over 2,J41
