charges as formally presented to the
court, on the ground that they in-
troduced matter bryund the scope of
the commission,

Robert R. Gainey was sworn and
said:
1 was elected by 840 votes as C'on-
serv'ative member for the District of
Manitoulin at the Tait election, held
on the 221141 and 29th of May. The
returns by the returning officer were
declared on the 27th of .lune follow-
ing. The result of the general elec-
tions as declared was 51 supporters
of the Government and 47 Conserve -
Pepe. Subsequently Mr. Munro, Lib-
eral, died, and that left 50 Liberal
supporters and 47 ('onnertati%es. The
recount in Lennox reduced the num-
ber of Liberal ettppoetere to 411.
