THE CENTRAL SCHOOL.
THE question of deciding upon iw-
proved-,school accommodation is •
large one and more time and attention
should be given to it than has leen
given up to the present.
One thine is clear. The present
central school on North street is half
&•century back, unsanitary •►rad out -of
date in every particular. To make
it of proper use it will have to be
remodelled completely. Like the Irish
man's gun it needs a new lock, stock
and barrel. The building is antiquat-
ed, the grounds are too small, the
sanitary condition, are a disgrace to
the town and • standing menace to
the health of every family that has a
representative attending school.
What is wanted it a new school
entirely, with plenty of ground and
more healthful conditions.
The erection of such • building
would be the truest economy, as it
would give the town proper school
accommodation for the next twenty or
thirty years, whereas the patching up
of the old building, while the immedi-
ate cost would be hiss, would still
leave us with an old and unsatisfac-
tory school, requiring another Iarge
expenditure in • few years.
The proposal is made, anti is sup
ported by • few ot the trustees, that
the North street building and grounds
be sold and the proceeds devoted to
wards erecting • school at the old fair
grounds which would combine the
WNW of both a ward and • central
school. The remodelling ot the old
central school would cost 95,000, and
a new ward school 92,000, and it is
estimated that • comparatively small
amount added to this together with the
value of the North street premise-,
would give us what is wanted -a new,
up-to-date, commodious building and
ample playgrounds.
This seems to be a very satisfactory
scheme, but it is not neeeasary that
those who oppose the patching of the
old school should pin their faith to it
entirely. There may be other plans
As goal or better. What is nee•ded i•
a full and free tlisc•ussion of the
matter, so that ell, board of trustees
may know the public feeling. it is s
question which afleoaevery_eatepayer,
and especially every parent, and final
action should not be taken without
000sulttng those who are thus nearly
Concerned in the matter. A public
Meeting should be called to thresh the
whole thing out and give direction to
the efforta of the board of trustees.

All who eat our bread like it. They like it because tt is
tasty. They like it because it is never dry and chaffy. There
is • uniform goodwill', a never -varying quality about our bread
that is sot found 1n any other bread that's made -not even the
bread that's made at home by the best home cooks.
This superiority is due to it oombinttion of circumstances
governing the making and baking% chief of which are the skilled
