A Convincing Argument
The large number ed Overcoats we have sold this imams goes to
show thht we have file right Roods at the right prioM, sad tl'e
styles are up -to date.
We have two makers' goods : W. E. SANFORD, OAK HALL

Nothing need be said of the former goods, as they are so well anal
favorably known, while the latter have gaiued an enviable repute
tion for wens high gradetailor wade clothing.
Our popular selling Otercoat is • long, leoae-back gaunt fit,
length 48 ruches, vertical pockets, velvet collar.
Our prices in Sanford's goods are 58, 510, S 12.
Our prices in 2(1th Century goods are $13; 516, $17.

THE RAILWAY BYLAW CARRIED.
THE result of the vote on the eleo-
tric railway bylaw on Friday last was
a black -eye to the opponents of the
project, and a fit answer to the un-
reesoning opposition that had of late
been raised in certain quarters. For-
tunately, the campaign of education
that was carried on had the effect of
giving full information to everyone
who had any desire to become ac-
quainted with the question, and the
public meeting that was held on Mon-
day before the voting was a very itf-
[active agent, coupled with the very
full report of the proceedings which
TBS SIGNAL presented to its readers.
The }furors, bruce and Urey Elec
tric Railway Company in another col-
umn, take the opportunity of thanking
the electors for the decisive manner
in which the project was sustained at
the polls, and pledge themselves to
leave no effort untried to ooasi-root
and operate the first section of the
road at the earliest day possible.
They have tins t-ubeen earnest in
their endeavor to bring a competitive
line to Uoderich and to confer railway
commanicstton on • section of the
country sadly in need of it, and now,
assured that the public is behind them,
they will continue the work until it
has become an accomplished fact.
To all who opposed the road con
scientiously those who are interested
in favor of the road have no word of
censure. The honest opponent with a
conviction on any public question has
• right to hie opinion, and his honest
opinion should 1* respected. To the
other opponents -who opposed the
project from furrow, personal and
splenetic motives -nothing need be
said. Verily, they bave their re-
ward.
The vote was a Targe one and :be
result was A flattering one to the
friends of the proposed railway. On
the basis of the names on the voters
list 266 votes were required to carry
the bylaw, and when the figures were
ennounoed at the close of the polls -
448 for and 104 against--• feeling of
general satisfaction was apparent.
We understand that s special meet
ing of the township council of Col
borne ham been called for Friday'
Dec. 5th, at Carlow to submit • by
law for 125,000 of preferred stock to
the ratepayers of that township. It
is intended to have the vote taken
municipal election day, Jan. 5, 1903.
we hops to gee the -easiness once more
in fell operation
. Work upon the neje factory has al-
ready commenced, and 0 Len com-
pleted it will be bigger and better
than before. That Goderich will reap
a benefit from the result of the vote
on Friday goes without saying. As
in the caw of the railway bylaw,
there was some dight opposition to the
factory bylaw, but we hope in the
near future to see such return' from
the operating of the factory that all
who opposed it. r establishment will
be compelled to admit that their op-
position was owing to want of
thought.
Now is the time for everyone to get
together and push the old town along.
THE MAYORALTY, t
\VE h>arn that a number of the elec-
tors have approached E. N. Lewis,
with the object of getting him to run
for Mayor for next year against the
present incumbent. Now, we have
no objection to Mr. Lewis' occupying
the Mayor's chair of this town, in
fact, we believe be would till the posi-
tion acceptably ; but we think the
proper thing for the supporters of Mr.
Lewin to do would be to approach the
present Mayor to find out what his
intentions are before committing
themselves to another candidate for
the Mayor's position. It has been
the custom of Tate years for the
Mayor to be giten two terms, if he so
desired, and we tail to tree why the
option should not be extended to the
present holder of the office.
MORE IMPROVEMENTS.
DURING the pant fifteen years Tu.
SInNAL has employed steam as the
motive power to run the machinery in
the office, and for heating porpoises.
Owing to recent improvements in the
oonstruction of gasoline engines, task-
ing those of modern construction more
convenient and reliable than the older
ones in ase, we have recently had one
installed in our printing department.
It was built by the Gasoline Engine
Co , of Toronto Junction, and was in-
.tal!ed by .IAI(U BTRACHAN, of the
Victoria street Machine Works, who
is the local representative of the mak-
ers. The engine runs smoothly and
gives • steady power. It is our pur-
pose to have our own electric lighting
Plant installed as soon tie posible, and
other improvements aro forthcoming in
the new future which are designed to
keep LIR S)ONAL printing establish -
