NetellHASOIROT THE ORGAN FACTORY. THE town is to be congratulated upon the successful vote in favor of MORNING the Organ Factory bylaw. The pro- prietors of ttist institution have taken hold with a vim, and in • short time TYURSDAT. DSC. fe IlIL TH RAILWAY BYLAW CARRIED. THE tric railwa • blackeye t of the vote on the eleo. bylaw on friday last was the opponents of the project, and a fit answer to the un- reasoning opposition that had of late been raised in certaie quarters. For- tunately, the c►mpatgn of education that was carried on had the eflect of giving full information to everyone who had any desire to become ac- quainted with the question, and the public meeting that was held on Mon- day before the voting was a very'i.f- fective agent, coupled with the very^ full report of the proceedings which THE SIONAL presented to its readers. The Iluron, !'race and Grey Elec tric Railway Company in another col- umn, take the opportunity of thanking the electors for the decisive manner in which the project was sustained at the polls, and pledge themselves to leave no effort untried to construct and operate the first section of the road at the earliest day possible. They have thus far been earliest in their endeavor to bring a competitive line to Goderich and to confer railway communic+tion on a section of the country sadly in need of it, and now, assured that the public is behind them, they will continue the work until it has become an accomplished feet. To all who opposed the road con 'icieottously those who are interested in favor of the road have no word of censure. The honest opponent with a conviction on any public question !las • right to his opinion, and his honest opinion should be respected. To the other opponents—who opposed the project from narrow, personal and splenetic motives—nothing need be said. Verily, they have their re- ward. The vote was a large one and :he result was a flattering one to the friends of the proposed railway. On the basis of the names on the voters list 266 votes were required to carry the bylaw, and when the figures were announced at the close of the polls - 448 for and 104 against—a feeling of general satisfaction was apparent. We understand that a special meet- ing of the township council of Col borne has been called for Friday' Dec. 5th, at Carlow to suhtnit • by- law for $25,000 of preferred stock to the ratepayers of that township. It is intended to have the vote taken municipal election day, "EWA 1903. we hops to see the business once more in fall operation Work upon the new factory has al- ready commenced, and %%..,.n com- pleted it will be bigger and better than before. That Goderich will reap a benefit from the result of the vote on Friday goes without saying. A. in the case of the railway bylaw, there was some slight opposition to the factory bylaw. but se hope in the near future to see such returns from the operating of the factory that all who opposed its re-establishment will be compelled to admit that their op- position was owing to want of thought. Now is the time for everyone to get together and push the old town along. THE MAYORAL rY. WE tear lthat a number of the elec- tors have approached E. N. Lewis, with the object of getting him to run for Mayor for next year against the present incumbent. Now, we have no objection to Mr. Lswts occupying the Mayor's chair of this town,. in fact, we believe he would till the porn tion acceptably ; but we think the proper thing for the supported of Mr. Lewis to do would be to approadb the present Mayor to find out what bis intentions are before committing themselves to another candidate for the Mayor's position. It has been the custom of late years for the Mayor to be given two terms, if he .o desired, and we tail to see why the option should not he extended to the present holder of the office. j MORE IMPROVEMENTS. DURING the put fifteen years TH■ SIGNAL has employed steam as the motive power to run the machinery in the office, and for heating purposes. Owing to recent improvements in the construction of gasoline engines, rusk. ing those of modern construction more convenient and reliable than the older ones in nee, we have recently had one installed in our printing department, Itwas built by the Gasoline Engine Co., of Toronto ,IunAion, and was in- stal!ed by .!Arse STRACBAW, of the Victoria street Machine Work., who is the local representative of the mak• en. The engine runs smoothly and gives a steady power. It is our pur- pose to have our own electric lighting plant installed as soon es possible, and other improvements are forthcoming in the near future which are designed to +keep Tex Stere" printing establish - went where it has stood for yearn, in the forefront of progressive uewspaper and job printing oflioe. of Canada More in this connection later.
