known financial agent, by appoint-
ment, at the Queen's hotel, Toron-
to. He told me that he:was then
negotiating the sale of the lumber
interests of the Cook estate, and
when it was through he would
prepared to float the H.,B. &
O. project. Since then he has
completed the Cook transaction at
$1,400,000, and is prepared to take
up our project. That is the straight
position, and that is why we now
want you to .lo your part. Mr.
Waller, whom I in for the first
time today. and who has looked
carefully into the scheme, said it
was a first-class business proposi-
tion, and assures me that there
will be little or r.o difficulty in its
flotation if the bylaw carries. But
I want to say to you now that not
one cent has been asked of the peo-
ple of (loderich to obtain the char-
ter, and not one cent of the money
voted by the town of Ooderich will
be spent until the construction of
the road is assured. There is our
position.
Councillor WIC IM -How much
has the Company to deposit with the
Government before they can com-
mence the road/
Mr. McGILLECUDIY-They hate
t0 depcsit 10 per cent. of the cost of
constructing the section, in a chartered
bank, as Government security, before
they can commence the road, and we
have to construct one mils before we
get $6,000.00, eo there is the fullest
protection to the people of Gode-
rich.
The chairman expressed his pleas-
ure that 1►r. Holmes had mentioned
this question and had brought out
Mr. McGillicuddy's reply, which
would remove any doubts which
might have existed.
The meeting closed after a vote of
thanks had been tendered to the
chairman. -'
