THE ROOT CROPS.
THE root crop are now safely under
cover, and we aro in a position to sum up
the situation in the county of Huron, which
fe as follows;
Potatoes are a good crop, the yield being
well over the mark, and although the tuber*
aro perhaps smaller than we generally fired
them, they are cleat, dry and decidedly
edible. The utter absence of rot is a cause
fur rejoicing, and there is very little scab.
Turnips, we regret to say, are • disap•
pointment The fly has been very much in
evidence, the drouth also doing injury, sod
the result is a very poor yield ot rather poor
turnips. Of Doone an occasional good field
of "neaps" was to be found In the county.
Mange's, on the other hand, have been •
royal crop. The yield has been generous,
and the quality A 1. If More mongols and
eug.r beets were raised for stock feeding,
and lees. turnips, more especially by our
dairy farmers, it would be a good thing for
culture !
