OOD1RIOH, THURSDAY, MAY lt, 1111
MRS STERNAMANIAOQ%JITTED.
AFTER two trials and an incarcera-
tion extending over twenty months, Mrs.
ULtvz STaaNAtIAN has been acquittal of the
charge of poisoning her husband.
Second trials usually result in acquittal,.
Whether it is that the surfeit of discussion
produces nausea in the public mind, and
eventually developet revulsion of feeling in
favor of the accused, or from what other
cause, we cannot say, but certain it js that
the chances are fully 9 to 1 in favor of
the defendant in the event of a second
trial.
Whether the verdict of the second jury in
the Ferzae SAN case be right or wrong, it
certainly gives greater satisfaction than did
the first. Ther. is • feeling of repugnance
in many minds regarding the infliction of
the death penalty, end this is intensified
when the itemised is a woman. In the trial
just closed the Crown not only bore the cost
of prosecution, but, so that the pri.ouer
might get a fair trial, went to the expense
of paying the witnesses for the defence.
Whiff, of itseH, was bound to evoke sympathy
for the ualortunate defendaut who was so
weak and defenceless that neither ens nor
bar friend. could put up • fair fight for her
life without Crown •aeistanoe.
The remit of the trial and the verdict
were evidently satisfactory to the large
majority of those who had carefully watched
the trial from a local standpoint, and we are
told that the announcement of the verdict
was greeted with cheers that could net be
by the authorities. This may
the sudden outburst of honest
or it may have been the fostered
month in maudlin sentiment, but of that
we are usable to judge.
It is worthy of note that the presiding
judge, Chancellor Born, the court reporter
NUM)* R. Berta esti, the Crown counsel,
B. B. Doses, Q.C., and the defendant's
eosrud,1X.. $. P. JOHNSTON, fibre precisely
the same as at the trial of Ce.A1.A Tore for
murder. The mulatto also was acquitted.

Hardly a family in the country is
free from Diabetes. Great thirst,
failing sight, numbness in the thighs,
bleeding gums, swollen ankles, ema-
ciation, nervousness, pale or turbid
urine, loss of sexual power, decaying
teeth, pains in the lotns or small of
the back, are all positive signs that
Diabetes is in the system.
Do you know how it ends? In
DZATN. A premature; horrible, agon-
ized, pitiful death. The victim has no
peace, no ease in life. His days are
tilled with tortures. His nights are
waking dreams of agony. He longs
to die, yet fears the terrors of his end.
He dies, a bloated, fetid, repulsive
mass of corruption. That is the only
end of unchecked Diabetes. Dodd's
Kidney Pills will cure it. They drive
it out of the system thoroughly, create
new, clean blood, rebuild the diseased
kidneys, and restore robust health -
