The moot important announcement
made at the meeting was that of
Mayor SHANNON on the elevator ques-
tion. He gave the audience to under -
strand that there is no restriction upon
the gift of $4,$00 which the G. T. R.
purpose making towards the construc-
tion of the new• elevator, and definite-
ly stated that no capacity was stipulat-
ed by the Company. This is as it
should be, and everyone in Goderich
will be pleased to learn that such is
the fact, as up to last week it was gen-
erally believed that O.T.R. authorities
had their hearts set upon a million
bushel elevator, and no mention had
been made of one of *mailer capacity.
The utterance of the mayor makes the
erection of an elevator a thing more
easy to deal with in the minds of
many, who, having teen impressed
with the idea that it was a million
bushel elevator or nothing, believed
that nothing would be the result. The
specific statement at Monday evening'.
meeting takes the project considerably
out of the clouds and nearer to earth.
and puts it within range of discussion.
