-A campaign of eduostion is ell very
well, but campaigner of 'Amodio' that
don't educate are worse than no campaigns
at all. A leader who goes on the stump to
be .uo.essful must set the people thinking,
and otter the people have been set thinking
they will take to talking, nod gradually
work up to the enthusiastic stage. That
was the Doone pursued by LaViclza in his
educational campaign, and we all know the
result. The beacon blazed from the Atkin -
tie W the Pacific, the heart of the jmople
was stirred, the public pulse beat strongly
in favor of the cause which he espoused,
and months, yea, a year or two before elec-
tion day arrived, it had been clearly demon-
strated that a political twHUA had arisen
who should lead the ple out of the
wilderness in whirl they hail waiMiered for
so many years. The general took charge „f
the great engagements, and his personalhy
was so strong that every man who could
use • political weapon or raise a shibboleth
and an" tone tea makit, hta MUMMY ,
felt. The WHIT\ty taat(ltigd by to the
present has evoked no such public feeling,
and the leader is not strongly lacked by -bis
followers in the House or by the rank and
file.

-(hie factor which has contributed to the

and, as a result, the mountaie Ita,uds and

-The practical dissolution of the Patrons
as a party organization, instead of making
matters lees complicated ham given to the
party politicians a new problem, viz., where
to place the former members of that asso-
ciation. Some there are who contend that
each and every member of the Patron body
win noir he found working in harmony
with the political party with which he was
identified previous to his mexasitn in 1804.
Others claim, and' we believe they are cor-
rect, that a large number of erstwhile Poe-
ronts will in the next campaign be found oo-
cnpving independent ground, and, having
once broken away from the shackles of
party, will not be no easily pleased when
election day cornea around, 0e they were in
former elections. If that 1* so, and there
are good reasons for thinking that tt iseq
these are the mea who will, in reality, con-
trol the elections in their respective ridings,
and the eandidate whn can make himself
aoceptahle to them is the man who will win
every time.
