Warton duty 28 The most terrific
storm that ever visited Wiarton in the
history of iia inhabitants oocurred yesterday
evening, taking ou the aplxrance of a
geuuine western cyclone. About 6 o'clock
• heavy roll of cloud, wits seen to be
gathering in the northwest horiuw and it
was generally ounoeived that we were about
to experienoe a rainstoru,, but nothing
more senoue than the several other storms
of summer ate expected. At about 6.45,
however, it broke over the town in all its
fury, and for upwards of an hour the rain
fell in torreuta and the wird blew with such
violence sa to beggar all description. Not •
soul was visible anywhere, .heaving taken
shelter wherever the storm overtook them,
and nothing was known of its destructive-
ness until it began to clear away. Great
fere were entertained for those on the w•t-
ev, and anxious eyes turned toward the
bay, where, before, the storm, a large sail
boat eras ten not • mile from shore. There
proved to be nine persons in the boat, six
of whom, me man and five women, ware
drowned. The remaiutog three were res-
umed with difficulty. Those woo were
drowned were :- Mr. Steam sad wife,
('heeley ; Mr. Stoves,' two .iatirs, from
Goelph, and ddre. iouchlin Currie and
daughter, Mary, of this town. The rescued
Dees were ;-Joh. Savage, John Hankie and
John Amines, an India from Cape Croker.
)Ir. Stevens had just finished the contract
of building a new church os the lediao re-
serve, and the party left Cape Croker dur-
ing the afternoon in the large sail -boat with
• fair wind. They were sailing up the bay
wing and wing with • light breeze, awl in
another fifteen minutes would have been
safely landed on the shore. Seeing the vie -
lout appear -mos of the storm they put down
their sail, sad, turning the boat to the
waves. prepared to weather the gale. At
the first gust of the storm the large boat
was picked up and turned completely over.
The men who were saved were found cling-
ina to the boot, which was the only part
d the craft out of water. John Swage
hung on to two of the women until a great
wave tore them from him. J. W. Jermyn,
lodian agent .t Cape Croker, came to War
toe in a buggy, having left about the same
time as the boat, sod, knowing who were
in the boat, hurried into town and had •
tug despatched to the rescue as quickly as
possible. But tbev were preoeded by Johg•
Dance, hjp son, and • young mad N3rt ,
who, seeing the periehmg owes, bravely
rushed to their rescue in a small boat ani
euooeeded in getting the three mac to *bore.
The tug'. crew looked for the bodies of the
drowned ones until dark last night bat none
were found. Mr. Stevens, of Cheeky,
brother of the unfortunate man who was
drowned, arrived oo the midnight express
with his wife. They were not aware of the

What about the objeetioos which I pre-
sume you observed Mr. Molest raised in his
speech at Niagara, that Ontario would be
swamped in Congress by the representatives
from the other States of the Union
" Ontario's provincial powers, it must be
remembered, would be largely increased..
As to her voice in Federal • rs, it would
be se powerful as that of any other sate in
proportion to her population. The States

population of less than five million for the
whole Ueminton. The aggregate wealth of
that State is also vaster than that of the
lbmisio5. I observe that our opponents
also speak of heading our oocntry over to
the United States There would be no
more banding of oar country over to bon
than there would be the handing et their's
to es. They would participate in the rich-
es of our oonatty, but we would also par*.

fact, every part of the United Countries
