Tun SPINAL, haulm, donned its new
dress about two weeks ago, is the centre
of attraction and admiration, onog to
its further improvements in its appear-
ance, type, and varied, interesting, and
edifying news. We presume that an 40-

w hich at present. we understand. is the
largest of all the local papers in the dis-

proprietor of THE Stu44AL deserves great
credit f..r his gnaheadttieeneu and
energy in thus endeaturinq to make
that journal a great medium for general

enterprise, ie hare no doubt, is duly ap-

so its the future.
The remains of Mr John Miller, of

from this stage of action during last
week by accident, were on Saturday last
interred In Dungannon cemetery. The
late John Millar was a eon -in-law of
Mr Jas McCuaig, of Ashfield near Dun-

the bereaved relatives.
It u with regret that ws have to note
the death of one of our old settlers, Miss

bereaved family and relatives have the
sincere sympathy cf the community here

It will be pleasing to the relatives and

the ground was very dry, and farmers
had some difficulty to get along with fall

also to the pastures and root cr-pops.

travelled from Godertch to Sarnia on his

his return trip. The conductor took up
b.. ticket, and in return gave him a
check for it. Before reaching Lucan the
conductor told the plaintiff that the next
station was the one he would require to
get off at and change ars, but pl•iutiff
says the train did not stop at Lucan
Crossing, where he should take the train
for Goderich, and consequently plaintiff
remained on the train, intending to re-

After the train had left Luau, which is

C•.ngresmen are rare individuals in
Washington lot now, even them who
have failed of • renomination hate gone,
though they were not in es big hurry to
get away as those who had been, or who
expected to he, renominated. One of
the last t.. go was representative Keaoe-
dy, of (►hon, who remained until he had
had printed 50,000 copies ot hie spine

order of the Hume expunged from the

doing with them, he replied, with a
puzzling smile : "I shall place taem
where they will do the most good." I
don't knew where that is, but as he has
a:reacy been defeated for renomination
It an hardly be in his own district.
A gentleman known to enjoy the con-
fidence of Mr Harrison was asked wheth-
er Mr Harrison would be a candidate be -
fun the next Republican National con-
vention. After exacting a promise that
his name would not be used he said :
"Yes, I think be will be, although I
hate never beard him say so in so many
words. Bat ever since the foundation
of the Gorernment it has been custom-
ary for the party which elects a Presi•
dent to give bon a second renomination
unless he had done something to forfeit
the cootidence of his party, and it bas
grown into a custom for Presidents to
expect it -Mr Hayes was the first Re-
publican who failed to receive it, bot of
course everyone knows why. 1 oonfees
that I don't see bow the Republican
party can refuse to renominate Gen.
llarris,n, and should they do so it
w ..uld be s reelection upon his admin-
istration that install not be creditable' to
the party." That is certainly a common
w ceE way of putting it, and 'chit, Har-
rison is not • candidate before the con-
vention it will be because he becomes
convinced that he could not pasibly be
nominated, and that he is not yet con-
vinced is patent to every copse observer
of the political ohms board.
