Haycroft, formerly ..f Rrussel., states
that the climate in Kansas is agreeing
with her splendidly.
William Barr Dickson, of Brussel.,
Boron. and Robert Stanley Hays, of
Seaforth. solicitors, are gazetted notaries
public for the Province.
Mr Thoa. Purcell, who is managing
Colemen's salt works at Brussels, has
been laid up with a severe attack of in-
flammatory rheumatism.
Miss Mary Kelly, Brussels, was called
home to Dundee on Thursday of last
week owing to illness in the family of A.
H. Kay, formerly of Brussels.
Mr Jas Baillie, of Detroit, is at the
residence of his father, to the 4th con.,
Moms. and is prostrated by a severe
attack of inflammation of the lungs.
Messrs Ga.. Worth and Frank Stog-
dill, who left Seaforth on the 6th of
May, arrived safely at their destination,
Denver, Cul., and secured good sit-
uations.
Walter F- Scott and Gideon Perris
are expected home t . Brussels before
long from a lengthened stay in Cali-
fornia, Washington Territory snd IIntiah
Colombia.
Mr David Keefe, son of Aft Michael
Keefe, of Seeforth, arrived home from
Seberne, Washington Territory,.'n Tues-
day evening, 20th inst. He speaks in
glowing terms of that country, and looks
M though it agreed with him.
Rrbt. Armstrong, a former resident of
Brussels, was in that town last week an a
•isit. Ilia health is not as good as ret
yere and he takes the vacation with the
hotm of polling up again. He is em-
ployed in a railway office in Buffalo.
Mrs Anne Msearthur, relict of theist.
James Maarthnr, and mother of Mr
Maearther, of Hassall, died on Friday,
16th inst., a1 "i.ynne Farm," East
Williams, in her b9th year. Mn Mao-
•rtber was widely kn-,wn and hi;hly
respected.

it is not a retriever either. 1 ins day

Mrs Brown, sr., mother of councillor
Brown,of Grey, died on Friday morning,
the 9th Inst., at the house of her son•in-
law, having reached the ripe old age of
fourscore years. For several years she
had been failing in health, but about two
mooths ago she slipped on the door step,
so injuring herself as to be thereafter un-
able to walk.
On Tuesday, 20th inst., Mr Samuel
11 eetaway, Exeter, met with an accident
which might have cost him his life. He
was engaged in placing machinery in the
Exeter grist mill, and was jacking up a
large wheel which weighed about twenty
hundred lbs., when the jacks slipped,
the wheel striking Mr Weetawey on oke
heed and laying him ahem' lifelese. We
are glad to learn he is reeoveri. .
A few days ago several children amus-
ed themselves chewing the tar used in
protecting Coleman's foundry, Seaforth,
and symptoms of poisoning set in In
several cases. We know one case where
a dcctor had to be called out of his bed
to treat a case where there was constant
and severe vomiting with great prostra-
tion. There were other cases where the
symptoms were not quite so severe.
There died in Clinton on Friday, pith
May, Mrs Samuel Fitsimmons, widow of
the late Samuel Fitsimmons, aged iO
years. Banal took place to Clinton
cemetery on the Monday following, a
Targe number of relatives and friends .t -
tending. Deceased was one of the pio-
neer residents of the county, was bora in
Fermanagh, Ireland, and came to this
country with her parents in 1836 and
shortly after settled in Ooderich.
A very serious accident occurred on
the farm of Mr Gavin Hamilton, 10th
Hullet, on Wednesday
morning, 21st inst. It seems that four
young men named Gavin Hamilton, jr.,
S. Littre, R. Cole and Mr Bill were en-
gaged in taking down an old barn. i'p-

they tied the other with • rope, but un-
fortunately the tope broke and the heavy
stick of timber fell on the men, who,
having in hand the other stick, were en-
able to get oat of the way. Messrs Ham.
ilton, Little and Cole are supposed to be
fatally Injured. It is said their hacks
•re broken and although still living at
last account their rec:very is supposed
to be imposeible. Mr Ball had his
shoulder dislocated and was Injured in
termini, but hopes are entertained for
bis recovery. They are all well known
and highly respected young men of the
neighborhood and the melancholy affair
has caused a feeling of wide spread sor-
row and regret and sincere sympathy for
the friends

Tidings have been received here of
the death of Frederick Weise, s• brother
of Mrs H. Zoelner and John Weise, of
Colborne township. Deceased for Dome
years was • resident ..f Montana mid was
well known about this section, when he
resided, 1:i years ago. He was a wid'44►-
ler and was in his 431h year.
The annual picnic of 10 G.T., No.
213, was held on the lake-bankon Lorne -
side farm, Dunlop, Saturday afternoon,
the (lemon's birthday. A tool time was
enjoyed by the members and friends who
attended it. _ y
