It was announced by the 4;:oi•e

on
Wednesday that the Provincial Treasur-

re-election in West Huron at the aiming
election. It has been understood for
some time that Mr R Io wished to
mitre from public life. Tbere is some
talk that Mr D. M.GILurcouY, of the
Gnderich Stene!, may be the choice of
the West Harm Liberals as Mr Rai.'
successor.

The announcement was made yester-
day that the lien, A. M. Roes will not
be • candidate for Wust Huron at the
sppruschrn1 general election. The
Treu'irer baa represented this constitu-
ency sinoe 187'x, throughout the whole
period of his parliamentary services, and
the connection bas brought honor and ad-
vantage alike to the constituency and the
representative. D. M. quite! nny,editor

It is stated, With a large degree of cer-

P. S. WILL,AMS, MANAGER.
THE f'O I-ENTION.
The Reform Convention for the West
Riding of Huron will meet at the Tem-
perance Hall, North -s•„ Goderich, on
Monday, May 5th, .t 1 o'cicck sharp, to
select a candidate to coolest the Riding
at the ensuing election.
Three deter/sites are allowed as the re-
presentation for each polling sub -division
in the Riding, and it is important that
every pulling sub -division should be
fully represented.
We would also warn the electors that
• brazen attempt to interfere with the
freedom of Monday's selection has been
made in at least one quarter by the
'ending out of circulars and by personal
canvass by one of the aspirants, and we
hope that such ungentlemanly c_nduct
will be promptly frowned down by every
delegate who attends the meeting.
The Reformers of West Huron want
no packed Convention, and any vitiate
data who would resort to such a gutter-
snipe policy deserves the back of the
hand from the Reformers of West
Hann..
The teats for candidature should be
character lint ; then past service and
political knowledge ; and then Potency
[of p'atf orm utterance. The faculty of
('pulling wires and playing cutthroat
!should not be esteemed a necessary euali-
1 cation. The "heeler is only a "heeler
after all. and should never be at the
front.

be proud of the enterprise of the inan.ge-
