That the condition of the Court -room
is not what ougbt to be expected in
the principal edifice of the county of

but the matter was brought prominently
to the front last Saturday by his Lord-

when, while waiting for the jury to re-
turn a verdict on one of the vase., the
following Dialogue took place :
His Lordship -Mr (Jarrow, do you not
think something might be done towards
inducing the County to supply a better
courtroom for the accommodation of
the public 1 The present roma lacks
ventilation, is heated to a very imperfect
and unhealthy way by theca stores, and
the ior in the room becomes so tainted
that it is very difficult to work in it.
Don't you find it so f
Mr Darrow -Yes; and i hare done so
for years pact.
His Lordship -Well, in other counties
we hare succeeded id obtaining proper
accommodation by indicting the County
for maintaining a nut mace, and perhaps
that course will hare to be taken here
If I had th:nkht of it I would have
mentioned it to the Grand Jury at this
court before I discharged them. Should
I lire to relern to Goderich 1 shall cer-
tainly take the matter up, and would like
your co-operatioo.
It is time something was done by the a
County Councils' along the line indicat-
ed by his Lordship. The courtroom is t
badly heated, poorly ventilated, and,
a
during the night sessions, is wretchedly
lighted. Efforts have time and again Ica
been made to force the County Council oP
to move in the matter but without avail, k
and it would almost imam that nothing• E
short of the drastic remedy suggested by ca
Mr Justice. Ito.. will compel the much in
needed change.
