"That this Board haring read Mia
Andrews' tioms.o.ioatiou of Aug. _lith
to the quarterly official beard, and said
letter being referred to this board, we
wish in reply to state that we intended
no reproach to !Lae Andrews nor du
we reflect in any way on her char-
acter, but we were in such a position
that are could not get a choir leader and
retain her, and we were thee neoesa, tat
ed to disci." her, and we wish this to
bean answer to her letter of May 24tb,
18b9."
The reason assigned f^r dismissal is
distinctly untrue, and in the light of that
the first part seen rather ironical, and 1
therefore beg 'egret° give a statement
of connecting circumstances as briefly as
I can. For several years past 1 have
been dependent for a livelihood ..n my
profession as teacher ..f music and or
gsnist, and as what defames my charac-
ter, and injures my reputation, affects
my means of living, and as my charac-
ter has been defamed, and my reputa-
tion has been injured by °erten)
parties, and I have been refused other
means of rectifying thew matters, I am
reluctantly compelled to adept this more
odic means to vindicate myself. Since
1864 until May hat I have been organist
f North st. Methodist church ; for more
than ten years 1 served without a salary.
My father was thee living and supported
sea. lo 1875 the board ..f trustees kindly
offered to pity me a salary, which they
have done ever sleets, commencing at
340 per annum Mr James Thomson,
whose friendly and rentlemaoly charas
ter I always respected, was leader of the
choir during the greater part of this
time After he left Mr S P Halls was
leader until last year. In Aug., MO, I
received • notice to attend a mee.tiog of
the trustee board, but was not told for
what purpose. Mr Hells was present
and I wee surpnmed to hear hien read a
list of charges against me for inanb..rdi.
patina, lc., roast of them being very
trivial. I understood at once that his
object was to get the trustees to dismiss,
or at least to reprimand me for the vio-
lation of • very elaber.te set of rules
which he drew up (as a trustee informed
me) the year previous. I replied and
gave some reasons, which lir Halls s4•
milted were true, why 1 did not treat
him with more respect and courtesy.
Being foiled, he tendered his resigna-
tion, which was $ocapted. After this
Mr E. @. Belcher was appointed leader,
and under his charge peace and gond
will eosin prevailed. In May last, Mr
Belcher tendered his resignation to the
board bet said he was in no hurty to
quit -that he was wilhnsr• to act for a
few seeks, until they get another leader,
if they ao wished ; it was therefore left
in abeyance. A few days after thee,
two members of the -hnsrd called and
asked me to resign. From what they
told me I anderst.w,d that they had ask
ed Mr Halls to lead the choir, and that
he dechned to accept with one as organ
int. I therefore refused to resign Two
days •iter this, the board had •neither
meeting, and among the oniemunrca-
tioas wee Ane from my mother, to re.
quest that bef)Ore matters were precipita-
ted & teller explanation should he given
for we thought that at least I should
know of what I was acaused before 1
wee r»tndemned ; another was (Teen Mr
Belcher, aakinr permission to withdrew
hu rag Enation. The regast of neither
thea letters was granted, but en the
simple formality of a motion, leader and
choir were summarily dismissed or 1'dis-
pensed with" -for what reason I never
learned -nor why the nrgaaist was not
incledwl; however, at the next nieetine
she was dismi..ed for the reason that she
refuted R. rentg•.. The board stated in

manded my dismissal. "
