and as the warm season is now approach-

you my *moiety for • couple of months,
agreeable to you and your family. Pro-

of June. Pima* drop as • line on the

"There now ! who ever did hear the

a mtlliopaire, and of such an old family

there's the napkin. ! I never thought
of them before ! they are literally in

"Cut up a tablecloth'" suggested
Hannah.
"Thagk you, my dear ; el we can.
Yon and Angelina can make them up
this afternoon ; and girl.," — in • mys-

so much fur • wealthy wife as for a gen-

call your sister Hannah ; it is a horribly

the poor child ruined with that name,
because it was bis mother's. Call her
Anna- -that is mon proper. And Anna,
do try and break yourself of that dread-
ful habit of patting y our fingers in your
mouth when you are spoken to ; it is
terribly ungenteel. And, as I said, I
want yon to look your prettiest, girls, to
captivate this fine young city aristocrat."
"Both of u. are to marry bim, then ?"
questioned Hannah, sententiously.
"Anna, you are disrespectful. Of
course, Charles will hate some choice,
and I advise you b..th to hold yourselves
in readiness to accept his proposals.
"When they come. But what is to
be done with Katie Glenn, I wonder r
"Katie Glenn ! Child, you astonish
tae ! Why, Katie will do the work as
usual, and keep in the kitchen out of
sight. Genteel familties dont hare
their servants in the parlor.
"Yes, but Katie's pretty, and jbeen
nice young gentlemen, lake cumin
Charles, are remarkably promo to dis-

regions of the cuisine."
"Non•erme ' Katie looks well enough,
but she is destitute of style, and her

"And your mother was • washerwo-

said Hannah, unconcernedly— with her

on the face of her parent. The (atter
rose in .11 the msje•ty of offended dig.

"Child '. ' she exclaimed, "repeat those
words and I disown you '"
Hannah subsided, and Angelina,
shocked and overcome, retired to the
sofa with a fan and the last word, while
Mrs Parkman ast about devising ways
and mesas to give the expected guest •
reception which should do honor to the
gentility of the family.
Katie Olson, the pretty little brown
eyed orphan girl whom Mrs Parkman
had charitably i1)adopted, was called to
the council, and if then was anything
specially tasteful in the arrangement of
the guests chamber it was due to Katie.
The spare chamber was over the kit-
chen—an arrangement which Mrs Park -
was never weary of regretting -and
and the Boor was broken through in one
place by the wear and tear of forty years'
constant use, fee the Parkman mansion
had once been a dry good. store and the
spare chamber had heeu rented as a shoe
store. Mrs Packman mended the 'Inc
tun" with • maple of clapboards and
the carpet covered all deficiencies.
The bedstead was newly varnished —
the chain ditto. The window curtain.
were embellished with • fringe, two
nail bites were converted into ottomans,
the tucking chair with the broken "limo"
was mended with glue and br.onght op
from the parlor for the accommodation
of the visitor, • speckled pudding duh
covered with • green tidy did duty as •

last day of May everything was in medi-
tates.

among vulgar people as the stomach.
Well, two day" of torture passed.
Charlie was nearly done for by the agon-
izing politeness of his relations, and
when he retired to his chamber at night
he determined to opt short his visit.
But what plea could he urge ! Besieges?
Humph ! They would know better than
to believe him.
"By Jove ! the very thing ! 1'11 get •

death without delay !" cried Charlie,
and. slated with the brilliancy of the
thought, he sprang up, struck his test
together, and came down un abs very

soapsuds, with which Katie Glenn was
scrubbing the floor.
Kate's brown eyes opened wide—the
let the mop fall in her astonishm.ot—
spatteriog the water all over her neat
blue gingham dress ; and Charlie, after
lying quiet a moment wondering if be
was • Baptist of the Free Will order or
Dot, scrambled cut and confronted the
little maid.
"Well," mid be, at last, "1'm here.
And I wonder where I am after ell r'
"Yon are in the kitchen," answered
Katie, demurely.
"And who are you 1"
"I am Katie Gleno."
Charlie eyed her • moment. then ap

of confideutul whisper :
"Are you genteel 1"
"I'm afraid not."
"Then give me your hand. I want to
fraternize with somebody who dom't
know the meaning of that horrible
word," and Charlie's hand closed uunec
cessarily close over the little trembling
fingers of Katie Glenn.
From that time the idea of the sick
friend in need was rejected The letter
from that unfortunate individual did not
arrive, and Charlie resigned himself to
the wkfer-like biscuits and shrunken
pies with Spartan philosophy.
Three weeks afterwards he delighted
Mn P•rkao by informing her in con-
fidenoe that he had really made cp bis
mind to zit married, and that the lady
was • member of he: own family ! Fur-
ther revelation• be did not make, but
Mr. Parkman drew her own conclusions,
and as'loon as Charlie had gone out for
his customary morning sooll the deliver-

was fitted for Miss Angelina at tho vA-

The wedding Case was concocted, the
list of wedding guests made out, and the

And, in the n.tantitne, one fine. moon -

There are many well known men coohned
in our Asylums who but a short time ago were
prominent among our buunesa and social
circles
Why are they there?
Paresis!
Did it come on at once?
Not at alL It was a gradual but positive
growth. They overtaxed nature. The drain
on their vitality, their nerve powers, their
brain tissue, was too great, and they gradually
bot surely sank under it. The things they
did to bring this sad end about are precisely
the same things that are being done iy
thousands of men and women to -day. It is
-toot necessary to name them. They all Mmol
disastrously unless checked or regulated.
Prof. Phelps, of Dartmouth College, knew
this fully when he began his experiments
which resulted in the discovery of the
wonderful Paine's Celery Compound. Ile
realized that pa.esis (consumption of the

knew that the brain and nervous system must
be fortified to meet the great strains which
modem life bring upx,n it Ile saw that hien
