It will be in the memory of our readies
'.bat a year or two since the citizens of
Goderich obtained a charter for the ez.
tension of the C. 1'. R. from Weighata
to that gown. This charter is on the eve
of expiring; in fact, her virtually expired,
without anything being done. Mr H.
W. C. Meyer, seeing what was likely to
happen, communicated with Goderich,
and to a great extent tried to avoid the
lapse of the charter. He advised the
town what steps should be taken to pre-
vent it, and even went the length of off-
ering to take the charter. This would
have involved decisive action on his part,
but quibbles on the part of the Goderiob
Council, and, from what we can learn,
too rheas prying, followed by discourtesy
to Mr Meyer in hot replying to his last
and definite letter In due time, has, as
the saying is, "knocked the charter in
the head," and the matter must now die.
' However, we are glad to learn the Coun-

template getting another charter, but be-
fore deice so we would recommend them
to decide to stand by it and do as our
townsmen did—put their shoulders to
the wheel and make it go.• They want
