R. from Weighata to that gown. This charter is on the eve of expiring; in fact, her virtually expired, without anything being done. Mr H. W. C. Meyer, seeing what was likely to happen, communicated with Goderich, and to a great extent tried to avoid the lapse of the charter. He advised the town what steps should be taken to pre- vent it, and even went the length of off- ering to take the charter. This would have involved decisive action on his part, but quibbles on the part of the Goderiob Council, and, from what we can learn, too rheas prying, followed by discourtesy to Mr Meyer in hot replying to his last and definite letter In due time, has, as the saying is, "knocked the charter in the head," and the matter must now die.
