Slit, --A friend having sent me Tar SI,.Nat. of 5th and 12th April last, 1 noticed your reference to tbe launch of s steamer at Goderich on first of these dates, 55 years previously. Though I was not present on that occasion, I happeued to be one of the pameneers un board the vessel, on, I believe, what was her first rsturo trip from Detroit, under the awn- mand of Capt. R. G. Dimino, R. N., o0 the 19th and 20th of July of the same year. I doubt very much, however, with the exception of myself, one brother and two sisters, reudissg at present in Canada, whether ray of thous who lauded 1rou the "Minneseturg'--or "3teneee- tonk," aa I bare sores idea the word was spelt -on the 20th of July, 1414, are now alive, though this brief •tatesnent, should you deem it worthy of insertion in your paper, may bring out som. evi- dent* to the contrary. 1 may add that I am acquainted with all the gentlemen whose oames.you mention as tieing wit- nesses of the launch, sad 1 flatter myself, should they see what 1 have here writ- ten, they will not peruse it without feel- ing *certain amount of interest in my remarks. I denser, ton, they will re- member that the steamer had s rather short career, with an unfortunate ter- mination, she having been burnt after • few seasons running, I think, at or near Detroit, but, I believe, without foes of !ifs.
