the corner of South street, and is one of
the best known hotels in Canada among
the knights of the grip•ack, many of
whom make it their home during their
vitt to Goderich. Built 42 years ago
by the late Jacob Seegmiller, it has
passed through many hands, and has in
its time entertained some distinguished
guests, among whom might by mention-
ed the late Chief Justice Sir John Bev-
erly Robinson, Sis Hector Langevin, Sir
Riehard Cartwright, Chancellors Boyd.
Blake, Ferguson and Proudfoot, nearly
all the circuit judges of the bench, lead•
ing members of the bar, Government
officials and many ethers. it. late pro-
prietor, the late Capt. W. Cox, 'mourned
charge in I11 2. and after carrying It on
for nearly 14 years, retired rather merle
than a year ago on account of failing

premiss of this firm. The building is a
very subatanti*l structure, the mill pair -
tem being built of stone, six stories high,

occurred in this township on the after-
noon of Fnday, November Sth, result
ing in the death of one of Colllurne'a
most respected farmers, Mr Alasaader

on his farm. He had removed subs
dirt from a ditch he was making fur
watering his cattle, and was standing in
his waggon, when the horses gut fright-
ened by the rattle of the waggon box
and belted acnes the ditch. throwing
Mr Reid violently out He got up
again and walked to the heuse unaided
telling ba, farm help to go after his
hones, and saying he was no. badly
hurt. But he rapidly grew worse, and a
medical man was sent for. Mr Reid
sank steadily, and died about three
hours after he met with the accident.
1 bare was a contusion on the back of the
neck, and the base of the skull was
fractured. The face was also "lightly
bruised. Mr Reid bore an excellent
character. He was an elder of Smith s
Hill Presbyterian church, and was held
in high esteem as s neighbor. He had
been auditor of the township of Colbc me
for several years. He was born in
Banff, Scotland, and emigrated to this
country about thirty five years ago.
He resided in Goderich for a few years,
and then took up land in Colborne,
where he has since resided. He was
married to a daughter of Mr John Mor-
ris, by whom he laves four children.
A daughter is married to Mr J. Grua -
matt, of the Nile. The funeral on Sun-
day was largely attended, :bete being
over 160 vehicles in the cortege. Much
sympathy is expressed fur the widow
and family.

Abercrombie next appeared in the fami-

and his very able rendering secured to
him an encore when he sang another

"Tom Bowling." The next item proved
one of the greatest favorites of the pro-

ing Hour," (J. F. Barnett), by Madame
Patsy and Mr AL . - . the blending
of whose voices, ti.gether with their ex-
prewion, made the full sense of every
line felt. The song, "Sally in Our
Alley,"(Carey), was excellently rendered
by Mt thercrombie, and he was greatly
appl.uded by Loth audience and chorus
masa.
