the carrying out of the provisions of the
Act in May will be rendered compara-
tively easy.
But there is another reason why a
strong organization should be formed,
and it is this : Tl..' ('ronin .ort is being
violated curl t.re,.h,;(our hours in Gude-
rich, and it is high time the majesty of
the law was asserted. Hitherto the
complaints for infraction of the Crooks
Act have had to come from the bummer
element, and to inform upon a whisky.
seller for breaking the law has been
looked upon as a man action. Why
should this be the case ? The man who
sells liquor illegally is no better than the
fellow who defrauds the revenue by run-
ning an illicit still; and a man who de-
frauds the revenue is a thief; and a thief
should be punished; and to one feels
averse to seeing a thief convicted.
Under these circumstances the work
of every decent man in the community u
plain. He should band with his fellow,
to carry out the law. If the Crooks
Act is a good law -and the liquor chaps
tell us it a- then they should conform to
its provisions. if they fail to do so,then
the fault lies with then), and they must
abide the r,onse.luences.
'the antis have au association formed
to hinder the working of the law, and it
is now the duty cf the Scott Act men
and women to rally around the temper-
ance flag, and checkmate their opponents.
When bad men conspire to de injury, the
decent portion of the community should
combine for mutual protection and to
uphold the law.
A farmer from the neighborhood of Kintail
brought a lead of barley to Kincardine market
about ten day. ago. and sold it for SS cent•per
bushel. He said he had been in Goderich a
few days before. and a buyer for the brewery,'
there had offered hire fifty cents for his barley
and said he would just as soon not purchase
even al that thrum in consequence of the pro-
bability of the Scott Act passing. In fact if
the Act were to paw. farmers would not he
able to sell their barley at all in Goderich.

be well treated in Kiuca:dine. We advise

The above extract only tries to prole
that wheu 11. W. Ball wrote that little
table about the brewery price being 121
cents hither than the market price in
G..lerich, he was doing • great injury to
the town as well u making a rod for his

that notwithstanding the assertions of
the Ibp.orter and the lying of H. W.
Ball, the grain market of Gcderich can
hold its own with any town in the Huron
tract. Fernier. with barley or any other
cereal can do as well in t,00derich
as they can in any other
market town, and the farmer of Ash-
field need not be frightened away by the
falsehood of the bombastic Ball, or the
wheedling. of the Reporter. Ball has no
interest in Goderich, and the Reporter is
interested in Kincardine.
