"Since the Scott Act agitation com-
menced in these tan counties, two gen-
tlemen who hare devoted considerable
time, and put themselves to inconveni-

McDonald and Mr. Jos. Deacon, Police
Magistrate of Brockville. To say their
assistance is valuable would only b3 to
state what is evident to all, and would
by no means express the real power and
influence exerted by them in a good
caums. No other two gentlemen in the
counties could an effectively do the work
they have voluntarily assumed. The
people know them to be men of intelli-
gence, eminently practical is their ideas,
with not a taint of fanaticism or "crank"
about them ; they know further, that
both the Judge and the Police Magis-
trate. have by their official position,
special advantage for obtaining accurate
information in regard to the causes and
consequences of immorality and crime.
And when they see .hose men. with no
hope or expectation of reward, with
nothing to pin in any way, personally.
and with a certainty of being criticised
and misrepresented, come out as a Ivo -
sates of • measure which their experience
and observation convince them is calcu-
leted to pr -duce good results, the people
know that the measure must be a good

into a saucepan any gravy you may hare

well-ouokedmeats make it tough; thicken
with • little dour, and serve with baked
