this time. Since I received the appoint -
of inspector. 1 hare visited nearly all the
scht.uls in Tuckersmith, Hulfett, Mc-
Killop, Howick, Turnberry and East
Wawanesh, and expect to visit all the
remaining ones before the close of the
present mouth. It affords me pleasure
to report that 1 have found moot of the
schools which I have visited in a pretty
satisfactory state -the teacher. geueral-
ly anxious and willing to do their work
well, and cheerfully receiving such ad-
vice u 1 thought it necessary to give at
any time. 1 have the honor to be gen-

The estimates for the current year
were lad before the csmmittee, amount-
ing to $i7,285, exclusive of the equiva-
lent to the legislative grant to public
schools, requiring a rate of one and

equalized assessment of the county, and
we recommend that a by-law imposing
the above rate be paved and also a by-
law to raise a sum equal by the Legisla-
tive school grant.

guarantee bond for $10,000 now present-
ed by the treasurer, and the personal
mortgage un his real estate for $15,000,
and if he insure the buildings on same

submit my thirteenth annual report on
the finances and condition of West
Huron schools- The cost per pupil to
the district as a whole was larger than
during previous years This is account-
ed for when the greatly reduced number
of pupils is considered. During the year I
visited every ach•xol twice. As in former
reports. I beg to state that the work of
our schools is generally well done and
productive of excellent results. The
number passing the departmental exami-
nations for entrance to high schools is
yearly increasing- In this connection I
beg to report that upon application the
Hon. Minister of Education has per-
mitted such an examination to be bold
semi-annually at Exeter. This, 1 am
sure, will greatly stimulate the pupils in
that locality, and very greatly mid the
teachers in the more successful work of
their schools. I regret very much indeed
that several of our must ex perieneed teach-
ers refused re-engagement at the end of
the year ; others ars suon'to follow, and
thus a very greet bas 1* sustained by the
district in their withdrawal from the
profession to enter others in which there
is less worry and mune money. Model
