The Expositor says:- The early pion-
eers are rapidly passing away. The
public learned with wine surprise wad
deep regret on Monday morning of tlo
death of Hugh Grieve, who resided on
the 2n.I concession 4.f MoKillop, near
this town. Mr. Grieve was an usually
healthy, robust man for his age and any
persen seeing him a few week* ago would
have said that he was good fur several
years yet. It was ordered otherwise,
however, and he pawed quietly away,
surrounded by hia children and friends,
un Sunday evening after an illness a
poly ten days. He has never really
been confined to bed. and was in Sea -
forth transacting business a week pre-
vious to his death. Ile had attained the
good age of 72 years and six months.
Mr. Grieve was a native of Itemboroshire,
Scotland. He came to this country in
1839,and was accompanied by his father,
mother and brother Thomas. Shortly
after arriving here his father died, and
his was the woond interment made in
the Harpurhey cemetery, and father and
son now lie there side by side. Mr.
Grieves having other friends in this
seetion cams directly to McKillop and
took up shad kcated the farm where he
continued to reside until his death. At
that time it was a dense frrest, but by
industry and good management ho ...on
succeeded in converting it into one of the
handsomest and most productive and
profitable farms in the county, from the
fruits of which be not only succeeded in
establishing all his children in comforts-
lele homes but leaves behind a compet-
ency besides. In the year ISO he was
married to Mies Janet Govenlock, a sist-
er of the Messrs. Govenlock, 04 Mr:-
K.111°p. She died about ten years age.
He leaves behind a family of three sons
and four daughters all of whom were in
attendance to pay the last sad rights to
the remains of a departed and hived
parent, save one, Mrs. H. Robertson
who resides in Dakota. He waa a mem-
