In their departure from town, Ooderich loses two most estimable yourPladies. • "AN Evart'NO Worn TRE orr*."- The Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor in connection with North Street Methodist church, spent an evert- ing with the poets on Tuesday last. The entertainment was a very successful one.° Vocal duetts were nicely rendered. by the Misses Ellard, and Monts Saunders and A. B. Henderson. Muses Weston, and Smooth each sang a pretty solo. Mr. Saunders gave "The Bridge" in good style, and "A Hundred Fathoms Deep" was struck on rock bottom by Mr. Henderson, who was well received is this eisetlent 'bass sok). The readings of Misses Halve and Harris were well rendered, and Messrs. Pentland. Me- Kibbon, Duncan, Strang and T. kfc• Oilliouddy were nicely received in their readings. The concertina solo by F. Bond was deservedly encored, and the in- strumental trio, organ, violin and con• certina by DePeudry, Henderson and Bond respectively, caught the entire house, particularly the genial chairtnan, Rev. T, M. Campbell. Mrs. T. Detlor, in her recitations, showed uncommon histrionic posse_. She is much above the average amateur as a reciter. Misses Trueman and Prioe were the accompan- ists of the evening. A stranger present remarked it was one of the moat pleasing entertainments of the sort he had ever attended. The selections displayed good taste on the part of those on the programme. COMMUNJCATIONS. We do not hold ourselves responsible for the opinions ot our Correspondents. Enrroe,-My son Fred sent me your issue of November 23, 1883, in which is a communication with the above heading, which he thought would in- terest me. Well, I know nuthing of the hardships of the brave militia of Huron of that period, nor of the promises made to the militia generally• but I do know what some of the reguar troops endured, and where they fought. I fought at St. Charles' for four hours, and the rebels killed and wounded thirty-four of the 1st Royals and 32d, commanded by Li - (lel. Weatherall, of the Royals. 1 then belonged to the Royal Artillery. The rebels had three or four guns in position behind breastworks. We were on the road with two nine -pounder.. My ob- ject in rending this is to correct your cor- espondent's mistakes. We, of tours took the town, and next day marched to Keatsohe, when Ste John Colborne (afterwards -Lord Seaton), joined us Markham oommanded. Capt. was not there, bot was ordered with his company of 3ild Resit. to St. tennis, where he was wounded in the neck. Lout. Weir was not "chopped in picots by the French Canadians, and his limbs thrown into the Chambly river," but was killed at the Wind -Mill, and his body brought to Kingston. It is a great pity that Mr. Kydd was not bettor in• formed on the matter before he went into print.
