Kibbon, Duncan, Strang and T. kfc•
Oilliouddy were nicely received in their
readings. The concertina solo by F.
Bond was deservedly encored, and the in-
strumental trio, organ, violin and con•
certina by DePeudry, Henderson and
Bond respectively, caught the entire
house, particularly the genial chairtnan,
Rev. T, M. Campbell. Mrs. T. Detlor,
in her recitations, showed uncommon
histrionic posse_. She is much above
the average amateur as a reciter. Misses
Trueman and Prioe were the accompan-
ists of the evening. A stranger present
remarked it was one of the moat pleasing
entertainments of the sort he had ever
attended. The selections displayed
good taste on the part of those on the
programme.

Ma. Enrroe,-My son Fred sent me
your issue of November 23, 1883, in
which is a communication with the above
heading, which he thought would in-
terest me. Well, I know nuthing of the
hardships of the brave militia of Huron
of that period, nor of the promises made
to the militia generally• but I do know
what some of the reguar troops endured,
and where they fought. I fought at St.
Charles' for four hours, and the rebels
killed and wounded thirty-four of the
1st Royals and 32d, commanded by Li -
(lel. Weatherall, of the Royals. 1 then
belonged to the Royal Artillery. The
rebels had three or four guns in position
behind breastworks. We were on the
road with two nine -pounder.. My ob-
ject in rending this is to correct your cor-
espondent's mistakes. We, of tours
took the town, and next day marched to
Keatsohe, when Ste John Colborne
(afterwards -Lord Seaton), joined us Markham oommanded. Capt. was
not there, bot was ordered with his
company of 3ild Resit. to St. tennis,
where he was wounded in the neck.
Lout. Weir was not "chopped in picots
by the French Canadians, and his limbs
thrown into the Chambly river," but
was killed at the Wind -Mill, and his
body brought to Kingston. It is a great
pity that Mr. Kydd was not bettor in•
formed on the matter before he went
into print. There are other inoorrect

At -maim.
To Mr. J. R. Miller.
DEAR TEAcaaft,-lt is with, pleasure
that we as a Bible Class assemble here
this evening to express our appreciation
of your efforts on our belttli, a work in
which you have most willingly and en-
thusiastically engaged. Although your
time is otherwise so occupied, your pre-
paration for the ciaas has always been
most painstakitul, as shown by your
thorough acquintanoe with the lemon of
the day. Your ability to impart know-
ledge and lead us to think for ourselves,
evidenced bythe eeoelat offioe you now
hold, and , ully corroborated by your
mode of teaching !nth. class, has been
of grget value ei us. Your earnestness
in triculoating the truths of God's Word
has made a luting impneaion on our
minds, and wo trust the truths proclaim-
ed have been implanted on our hafts.
Nor hava you rested satisfied with mak-
ing uta acquainted with the moa mechan-
ism of the Bible, but with a torch kindl-
ed at the Holy Altar, you have striven
W )lett it and make it a lamp to our feet
and s light to our path.' In presenting
this address and gift. we desire to couple
with your name that of your amiahle
wife, whose generous hospitality and af-
fable manner have contributed largely -to
the enjoyment which on comfier occasion
has been ours in your hatpin Accept,
then,dar friends,the accompanying gift,
and may it ever be to yott a token, sou-
venir and symbol -a token of our appre-
ciation, a souvenir of the profitable and
pleasant hours we have spent in the elms
and in your house, and a symbol of that
f ountaiu of living waters to.ard. which
you have endeavored to direct our steps.
And when our days of mooting and part-
ing on earth are ended. may we all meet
in haven when parting is unknown.
Mr. Miller, in reply, said that they
had indeed taken hint by surprise, so
leach so that he fotnd it much harder to
reply to their kind address than to talk
to them in the elms.. Three years ago,
when he was asked to take this work, he
had hesitated, bemuse he had not been
engaged in that work fcr some time and
also ikioauee he did not know whether
his health, and his other duties would
permit -Aim to give the work the time
end "emotion he would like. He had,
however, accepted it, and had never
boom sorry for it. He had often attend-
ed the elms when tar from feeling well,
but had been rewarded by seeing the
deep interest that many of then took in
the lemons, and he felt ennAdent that
their meetings had not ban without pro-
fit He also spoke et the inerasein`
number attending the elms, and asked
all present to use every sdo,t to increase
