TiiE DAKOTA LAKI) BOWL.
The Moil and its tail of Tory newspa-
pers are working themselves into a pers-
piration on secrunt of the fact that some
Reformers own lands in Dakota. The
Mai! and t!te tail make a mistake in
howling, and for this reason : Has not
any +elan or c ompamy of *nen a perfect
right to invest money in any legitimate
speculation, up an which g•sod profits can
be realized.! In Goderich we know any
number of Grits and one or twu Tories
who don't scruple to admit that they own
lands in the Unitei States We are
forced to state that more Grit have
ingested in American lands than Tories,
so far as this section is concerned, but
that is owing to the fact that tho Gude-
rich Grits, as iu stoat other places, are
the wealthier class, and consequently
have the moat tummy to invest. We
blame no man for pacing lt.a money
where it can make the beet return, and
no one but a fool, or one who never bad
any money to invest would think of rats-
-Ing any objection to the action. When
a former editor-in-chief of the Mail
found himself out of a job, be d:i not
consider it infradi,i to invest his capital
-his brain power, and ho had brain
power - in Uncle S.tm'e dorninians,
knowing that t:fere he would roceive
full remuneration; and we are of opinion
that the present editor of the Mail will
be constrained to do something of the
same kind, when his present billet slips
from him. The forty-ninth parallel is,
after all, only Ettti imaginary line, and
every Tory who gets out of a job iu Can-
ada, demonstrates that fact if he bis
m trey to pay his railway Fara to the
other side. For our own part; we are

Why should druggists have to lay
bonuses to doctors for sendtnz patients
to their stores with presciptions to be
made up l It is m common practice in
Toronto -so connmin that the exception
would be noteworthy. Instead of paying
a commission on each prescription, the
drugeiste send a lump auto to the doctors
who favor them. This is not a very ele-
vating custom and we are surprised that
the medical men should be guilty of it.
In a city like Toronto, where there are
so many medical men striving to make a
living, it is not unnatural that they should
accept bonuses from the druggists, but
members ofaohonorable a practice as that
of medicine, should he above such a thing
It would ie interesting to know out of
whose pocket the bonus cornea It must
either come nut of the pocket of the pa-
tient or the druggist. If it comes out of
the pocket of the patient, then the pa-
tient is cheated, because he is made to
believe that when he has paid his fee he
has discharged his oblisration to the doc-
tor, whereas if it collies out of the drug -
gilt's pocket then the druggist is subject-
ed to tribute which he has no right to
pay. There would be no use of one
druggist refusing to pay, as this would
only drive the doctors away from his
store. But if all the druggists combined
to resist this system of b,nusing, fl:ey
would find it to their advantage. -(Tor•
