TI1L' EAST 111'10)N 1'ETIT1t,v,
As we anticipated, the petitioner i
the East Huron election case is not ane
ions to face the mune. At the metest
of his lawyers the trial, which was t
have come orf inside of a week, has bee
post, soned, and the order granting th
postponement is must indefinite in it
extension of time. The chief reastm
argued by the petitioners in favor u
postponing the trial was, we understand
that two of the witnesses—in fact, t
principal witnesses upon whom the pet
tioner relied—were out of the country
one beings in England ani the other i
California.
A poor excuse is said to be better tha
none at all, and it happens so in thj
instance. Had the witnesses who ar
new abient been present, it is quit
possible some other pretext fur askin
fora postponement of the trial would her
been in order. The fact is, the peti
tiuner's friends are not so sure that Mr
their utuuicipalty they wade themselves
liable to severe personal penalties, they
would be inure ca Ill it: the discharge u(

discovered her almost apoplectic in the
effort to raise the ceiling with her voice.
The bright -mole gyred pocket handkerchief
had lost its charm, and the feelings of
the "sweetest -tempered little thins in
town"—as the doting mother had called
her—were finding vent in screams that
would cause a steam whistle to hide its
head in envy.
What 'vas to be .dd'ne ? We offered

the return of the mother. "

Lieut. -Governor' Aikens expressed

the broad streets, but said they beat us
in this particular in the North-west

and plankwalks here was a feature which
Is., attracted his attention, and when
