bly this may account for the failure, a
we know apples from an extreme climate
are often found to be a failure when tried
in a moderate climate.
Although the apple crop was at first
said to be only about a quarter the usual
yield in the Burow section, the ship -
menta have been considerable and the
specimens very fine. The shipnenta of
winter apples from Goderich *lune foot
up about 1I,000 barrels, and at almost
all the stations along the railway linea
north and south shipments were made.
Bnyers for the British markets have
been careful in making selections. They
prefer the foliating varieties : Baldwin,
Spy, Russett (the American Golden and
Rozbuey) Wagner, King of Tompkins,
Mann. R. I. Greening is losing in popu-
larity, and from present indications bids
fair to be entirely discarded frem the list
of .ariettes suitable for ear•.r (!Anads
Red u also enquire] for by almost
alt buyers, and many also like the Winter
Strawberry. I believe within five years
the list suitable for export at profitable
prices will be reduced considerably, and
it is i:nportant that growers should
look carefully into the nutter, and plant
only such kinds as' are sure to be of
profit. Frim experience with the Brit-
ish market for several insets I would
confine a new orchard to Baldwin,Ruaset
(American Golden and Rozbury only),
Spy, Wagner, Canada Red and Mann.

and in rec, guition of her service!, they
presented her with the quilt accompani-

Clinton, on behalf of the ladiej, read :
To Mrs. R. Davey,- The ladies of the
congregation have from time totime notic-
ed the very deep interest which you have
evinced in their undertakings; and more
especially are they mindful of yap untir-
ing zeal in endeavoring to eecuretthe suc-
cesa of the present one. They frankly
acknowledge that you hare been the
leading spirit therein, and they desire
upon this occaaon, in a tangible way, to
give expressiou to their thanks.
Therefore, in their behalf, 1 pre
sent you this guilt, which y .0 will
please accept, not as n full recompense
for your valuable seri ices, but as a small
token of their high sateen:, as a supple
manifesto of their gratitude. Their earn-
est prayer to the Most Nigh is, that your
valuable life may be long spared, and
that the flowers of happ:uesq and joy
may be thickly strewn along your patk-
way. They would retain• you of the
great fact that your indefatigable efforts
will one day bo amply rewarded by Him,
who alone is enmpetent to place a just
estimate upon all our labors.
