Mr. Eugene D. Carey, formerly of Gode-
rich, has become a partner in the well-
known legal fins of Bain, Blanchard &
Mulock, of Winnipeg. Mr. Carey is
fast rising in his chosen profeuion in
Manitobo,.and his succors is, we trust,

Mr. and Mrs. Harry II„ lone." have re-
turned from their visit to Milwaukee.
Mr. Holmes intended extending his trip
to Winnipeg, but took sick and had to
return. Mr. H. King of Stratford, took
the place of Mr. Harry Holmes as tele-
gaph operator at 0. T. Station here,
during the latter's absence.
Mr. M. C. Cameron, M. P. fur Wet

rich, left by the steamer Quebec, on
Wednesday last for the North- West, nn
a trip. Mr. Cameron goes, to Winnipeg
and the reminder of the party to Bran-
don and Dakota. We wish them a
pleasant journey.
An exchange feelingly remarks. -The
most persevering persons in the world
are those who persist in 'sanding com-
munications to newspapers without giv-
ing their real names. Though told tiiue
and again that with name omitted they
contribute only to the waste hasket,they
persevere in the work with a zeal which
know0 no wavering.
The Monster excursion from Brantford
to Godprich has been postponed until
Saturday. August 5th. This excursion
has boon got up under the auspices of the
0. T. R. employees, and 600 tickets were I
disposed of by last Tuesday. The mac-
agers of the affair expect to have a hand-'
some surplus, which will be expended in
prizes for games and sports.

McDonald, all passed with credit, ob-
taining five first-class honor., ane three
second class ones. Mr. Duncan obtain-
ed first-class in French and German, and
second in English, in History and Geo-
graphy ; Mr. Clutton first-class in
Mathematics and French, and second in
German ; and Mr. McDonald first-clvs
in Erench. We congratulate our young
friends on the honor they have done
themselves, their friends and their

On Wednesday last the picnic under
the auspices of the ladies of St. Peter's
Church, was held in Bingham's grove.
The early morn looked threatening. but
ssi the morning advanced the sky clear
rid, the sun burst forth and a grand day
was the result. Great prepations had
!leen made for the event, and the booths
were el'ected, and swings, &a, arranged
the day before. About 10 s. w. , the
town band began serenading on the
square, and, after making two or threw
w ounds proceeded to the greends, fol-
lowed by a number of picnickers, whine
a pleasant time was afoot The ladies
of the congregation and their (needs
immediately began the attack on the
pockets ot the gentlemen. and the im-

regarding the schooner Explorer, is full
