It is a generally accepted fact that the breeding of what are termed fancy hot, sea, cannot be successfully dune by the ordinary breeder. With rare exceptions, breeding f',r speed is SO uncertain, even when those engaged in the business are possessed of the very choicest animals adapted to that purpose, that it is only those that have a fortune, and aro able to pursue the object as s 'natter of plea- sure, that can successfully pursue the business for any great length of time. The mania that for years has ix.saessed our people for breeding fast horses is rapidly leaving thein, and they are be- ginning to realize that if they are to make any any money in breeding horses of any kind, it must be in producing ani- mals that will'! the heed a specific value in themselves, nheilier trained or un- trained. It is net :ressaryto enlighten the people as tothe class of horses that sell the most readily at the ;oroaeut time. Every one knows that good -formed, large-sized, %itorous, hardy draft hones .tre in active demand, and that the buy- ers are searching the c'nintry in every portion where these horses can be found in any considerable numbers, and paying large prices, 8200 to $230, for animals 1 that weight front 1300 to 11;00 1eunds. Hew t.. produce this class of horses is something that interests every fanner throughout the ceuatry. A few Years since, when there were no pure bred, large sized stallions to be found here, it was a practical impossibility to du so with any degree of certainty from our ordinary sized mares, but latterly, the importation of heavier classes of stallions from foreign countries, and especially the admirable Pcrcherons, that are be- ing imported from LaPerche, France, has made the hitherty unattainhle ob- ject easy of accomplishment. Nearly all classes of large horses have been tried, the English draft, the Clydes- dales, the Belgians. the Boudonnais, a costlier specimen of the French horses, soneetimes in this country improperly called Normans; but none havisee.ned ' to "nick" s., well- with our ordinary stock as the smooth-b.uilt, clean -limbed, powerful -muscled, vigorous and active Percheron horse of France. Since 1872 2 several hundred of these stallions have been imported and gold to nearly every State in the Union, and wherever found they are held in the highest estimation. Quito a number of both imported and grade stallions have crossed the moun- tains and are doing the country valuable service. This is very ftattenng to the clear-sightedness and perseverance of our breeders, and we cannot too strongly urge the continuance .d such a worthy enterprise, as every one these animals that are brought to our State will add greatly to its future wealth. -American Rural Home, Rochester.
