employees and their wives to a
turkey dinner on Saturday, Dec. 9.
After a pleasatnt social
evening, Ross Smith thanked Mr.
and Mrs. Elston for their hos-
pitality and presented them with
a gift.
Win at. Euchre
Nine tables of euchre were
played in the. Community rooms
last Wednesday evening. Prizes
were won by; High Lady, Mrs.
Hugh Rinn; Novelty Lady, Mrs.
Earl Noble; Low Lady, Mrs.
Abner Nethery; High Man, C.R.
Coultes; Low Man, Harold
Procter.

Friends and neighbours
gathered at Belgrave Community
Centre on Dec. 9 to honour Mr.
and Mrs. Clarence Rath, Mrs.
Jean Taylor, Mrs. Myrtle Stone-
house, and Mr. and Mrs. Victor
Youngblut on their departure
from the sixth line of East
W awanash.
The evening was spent in
playing progressive euchre.
Prizes were won by; High Lady,
Mrs. Ivan Wightman; Low Lady,
Bill Taylor (playing as a lady);
High Man, Victor Youngblut; Low
Man , Clifford Coultes; Novelty
Prize, Leroy Rintoul of Kettle
by, Ont.
Clifford Coultes gave one of
his humorous recitations and
then asked the honoured guests
to come forward and in a short
address, extended good wishes
to all in their new homes. We
are happy to know that you deci-
ded to move no further than
Belgrave and Brussels. As
a small token of esteem, each
was presented with a pot of
yellow mums.
Stanley Black made the pre-
sentation to Mr. and Mrs. Rath,
Walter Scott to Mrs. Taylor,
John R. Taylor to Mr. and Mrs.
Youngblut, and Ivan wightrnan to
Mrs. Stonehouse.

elects officers
The Christmas meeting of the
W.M.S. was held at the home of
Mrs. J.C. McBurney with 11 pre-
sent.
The meeting opened with Mrs.
Joseph Dunbar reading the scrip-
ture. Mrs. Stuart Cloakey led
in prayer. The secretary's re-
port was given by Mrs. J.C. M c
Burney, followed by the trea-
surer's report by Mrs. Dunbar.
The roll call was answered by a
Christmas verse. Offering was
received and dedicated by Mrs.
Ronald Oke. Twenty-nine sick
and shut-in calls were recorded.
A letter was read from the Leper
Colony in India, thanking the
group for the used stamps.
A motion was made to send
$10 to the Armagh Home in
Toronto. A program committee
of Mrs. Joseph Dunbar and Mrs.
Ronald Oke were nominated to
prepare the program for
next year.
The new list of officers for
next year are; President, Mrs.

Attend Achievement Day
All the girls of Belgrave III
"Delightful Dishes" attended
Achievement Day. It was the
completion of the club which was
the "Third Meal". All parti-
cipated in the Quiz and
Questionaires that were held in
the morning and watched a film
about a "Fashion Show". After
The exhibit which was salads
for cold meats, was commentated
by Louise Procter.
Mrs. Marie Hunt, Home
Economist of Shakespeare, gave
a comment on the Skit and Mrs.
Jean Lawless, Home Ec onomist
of Harriston, gave comments on
the exhibit.
The presentation of the
leadership awards was made to
Mrs. Leslie Jacklin of Wingham.
The club leaders received a spoon
and certificate for the girls.
The Spring Project is"Sport-
wear from Knits".

White gift
Sunday
White Gift Sunday was obser-
ved in Knox United Church, Bel-
grave, Sunday, Dec. 17. George
Procter, Superintendent, gave the
call to worship.
The members of the Inter-
mediate boys and girls class
read the Psalm in unison. Three
of their members, Doreen Tay-
lor, Clifford Branton and Mar-
jorie Nixon read Scripture pas-
sages related to the Christmas
story and gifts.
The envelope contributions,
which this year are being sent
through the United Church for a
needy cause, were collected in
two small decorated baskets by
Howard Roberts and Gary Hop-
per.
Rev. John Roberts spoke
mainly to the members of the
school who were seated in the
front pews. He chose "Gifts"
as his subject comparing those
given by prospectors of the Klon-
dike Gold Rush, when gold was
so plentiful that its true value
was lost, to gifts which demand
true sacrifice. He chose three
men of the gold rush as examples
of real sacrifice; a surveyor,
a policeman Sam Steele, and a
Roman Catholic Clergy--William
Judge, who were outstanding in
honest and sacrificial giving. He
stated that to have real meaning
a gift must make demends on
oneself.
The large choir, with Miss
Brenda Johnston as organist,
contributed a fine Christmas
number "Ring, Bells of Christ-
mas".
Mr. and Mrs. Edgar White-
Mrs. James Coultes opened
the Christmas Meeting of the
U.C.W. with the singing of hymn
"as With Gladness Men of Old".
It was decided to assist the
Hi-C and the Children's Aid with
cash donations and to continue
allocating money to Marine Mis-
sion.
Year end reports were given
by the conveners. Mrs. William
Coultes presented the report of
the nominating committee which
was accepted and is as follows:

by Mrs. Stan Hopper followed
by hymn "Joy to the World".
Mrs. Jack H iggins read the scrip-
ture from Luke, Chapter 2,
verses 4 to 20. Mrs. Willard
Armstrong read a short Christ-
mas Story, entitled "Three
Chests". The Coultes sisters
sang two Christmas numbers.
The offering was received and
dedicated. The Spirit of Christ-
mas was read by Mrs. Jack Hig-
ins, followed by prayer and hymn
"Gentle Mary Laid her Child".
Mrs. James Coultes then called
on Mrs. John Roberts to tell
us about their Christmas in Wales
Mrs. Leslie Bolt thanked
Mrs. Roberts for her very in-
teresting and informative talk.
Christmas
meeting
The Christmas meeting of the
afternoon Unit of the U.C.W.
was held in the church basement
with eleven ladies present. Mrs.
Harold Procter was in charge of
the devotional period which she
opened with the call to worship.
"While Shepherds Watched their
Flocks" was sung accompanied
by Mrs. George Johnston at the
piano. Mrs. Procter led in
responsive reading and prayer.
After the hymn "0 Little Town
of Bethlehem", Mrs.RobertHib-
berd read the Christmas Story
from St. Luke. "Silent Night
Holy Night!" was followed by the
meditation "It is His Day" by
Mrs. Procter., Prayer and "Joy
to the World" closed .this part
of the meeting.

Person wants Faith in themselves
and Hope that is that is born on
Christmas Pay. "Tell. Me of
Christmas"--Christmas must be
in the heart before it is in
,the eyes, for Christmas is a
time of sharing and under-
standing, and deep rejoicing, not
a time of mere things.
Mrs. Earl Anderson con-
ducted a Christmas Quiz and also
led the discussion on Christian
Freedom. Mrs. Stanley Cook
and Mrs. Herson Irwin brought
in the 1973 slate of officers:

ted on Saturday with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Herson Irwin, also
visited with her sister, Mrs.
Scott Reid of Wingham, who is
a patient in Wingharn and. Dis-
trict Hospital.
Mr. Edmund Irwin and Mr.
Ross Burn., Goderich visited
on Friday evening with Mr. and
Mrs. Herson Irwin.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hibberd
attended the funeral of an aunt
the late Mrs. John Gedcke in
Calvary United Church, Listowel,
on Thursday, also visited with
Mrs. Edgar Wahl.
Mr. Gilbert. Beecroft has been
chosen as president of the Bel-
grave branch of the Canadian
Bible Society.
Master Paul Coultes had his
tonsils out last Friday morning in
the Wingham and .District Hospi-
tal.
The Messengers held their
Christmas meeting on EundaSt
in the United Chnrch basement.
The children enjoyed making
Christmas decorations. The next
meeting will be January 14..
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Van Nie-
kerk and. Sheryl of Barrie visited
over the week-end with her '
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stan Hop-
per.
We extend sympathy to the
relatives of the late Miss Mar-
garet Yuill fomerly of this area
and also to. Mr. and Mrs. Rae
Crawford in the death of her
brother Mr. Frank Little of Brus-

a patient in St. Mary's Hospital,
