plowmen
Kenneth Stewart of R.I2,5,

president of the Huron Plowm an,' s
Association at a meeting held in
Winthrop wednesday,
Other elected officers are
John Clark, of Goderich,
and James Armstrong of Wing--
ham, vice -presidents; Russell
Bolton; R.R,1, Seaforth, secre-
tary -treasurer; and Bill Banly
of Goderich, assistant secretary-
treasurer.
Gordon McGavin, of Walton,
was named director of the Ontario
Plo 'man's. Association and
Maitrice Love, of R,R,3, Exeter
was named assistant director.
The directors of townships
will be appointed at the spring
meeting.
A letter will be sent to the
Ontario Plowman's Association
extending an invitation for the
International Plowing Match to
be held in Huron in 1978. Three
sites have already been offered.
Brussels
makes grant
to hockey
The Village of Brussels
Council met in the Municipal
Office on Wednesday. December
13th with all councillors present
and Reeve J, L. McCutcheon pre-
siding.
Building permits were
granted to George Somers and
Brian 1-luether as per applicat-
ion.
A letter is to be sent to the
Huron County Board of Educat-
ion requesting that in the year
•1973 there be two dates for pay-
ment of rates, namely June 30th
and December 15th.
After considerable discussion
the Traffic Violation Fee regard-
ing overnight parking on all
village streets between the hours
of 2 a.m. and 8 a.m., during the
winter months, was'set at $3.00
per offence.
It was decided, after flue
consideration, that $1375.00'be
granted the Brussels, Morris anti
Grey Recreation Committee
for Minor Sports.
Accounts approved totalled
$41,300,88.

fOr the shows- put on at
Christmas time by travel-
ing entertainers, who pro-
jected shadow shows in
pantomime, using silhou-
etted fig ires, by means of a
magic lantern. The galanty
shows were projected on a
white sheet, or on the ceil-
ing. But before long, magic
lanterns became cheap and
plentiful, so people had
them in their homes, with
an array of colored slides —
and this became a popular
home entertainment.
Now, many years later,
and in spite of the attrac-
tions of television, the, lin-
eal descendants of those
early magic lanterns eon-
tinue to fascinate us, Who
hasn't seen a series of color
slides, usually the well-
