To most of to-day children
the war is. history. They know
it is a day each year to think
about another generation that died
for them. If we can't remember
We should think as we gather
around our local war memorials.
These Canadians gave their lives
in order that we might be free to
live in peace. As sadness rushed
into our hearts we should give
thanks that we are alive and able
to enjoy the beauty around us and
the excitement of a baseball game
and the dozens of other things that
they too hoped to enjoy.
Those who perished in battle
will never receive the honor due
them for their sacrifice which
gave us the freedom, joys and
privileges we enjoy today. As
citizens of Canada we should keep
them close to our hearts.
we must realize that the free-
dom of democracy which provides
our school systems, our nations
position in World affairs, was due
to those soldiers who fought so
valiantly to make this possible.
Let us' wear our poppy proudly
and remember its significance
the blood red for the blood shed
by the many injured and the black
centre for the death toll paid.
We w111 remember the fallen
soldiers of two World Wars with
a "thanks" in our hearts and a
tear in our eyes.
' Greater love bath no man
than this:
That a man lay down his life
for a friend.
REMEMBRANCE DAY
THOUGHTS OF ' 72
(By Bob Bryans)
November '18 was the date of the
treaty,
It was signed by men that were
great and mighty,
And since this was the war to
end all war
The cry of the bugle would sound
no more.
No more would the cannon rend
the sky,
No more would warships shudder
and die,
No more would proud parents
wait and fear
That the casualty list would name
someone dear.
But something went wrong with
the plans of men,
For by '39 they were at it again,
And once more was a mother's
prayer the same,
Let not the list contain my son's
name.
Twenty-seven years passed since
the end of the fight.
A new generation his come into,
its right,
TO ahem, the word i‘ war" 14 only
s word
They know not the anguish caused
by the sword.
May a loving God then forever
Shield,
From the blood and the stench of
the Battlefield,
And may loving parents ne'er
have to sveep
For sons, who in strange lands
are forced to sleep.
May this new generation never
lose sight,
That the ease that is theirs was
not won without fight,
And tho' death through years has
thinned veterans' ranks
it would gladden their hearts if
we pnly said, AoThanks"',
