In the race for council three
of the four members of oouncil
were returned. They were Hank
Tenpas 375, Ivan Campbell
343, and Roy W. Kennedy 245.
A new member Wayne Lowe was
elected with 285 votes. Other
candlidates were Harold Bridge
239, Alex Keifer 225 and James
A newcomer to. Grey Council
and the first woman to be elec-
ted in the .township headed the
polls on Monday.
Barbara Dunbar polled 337
votes to become the township's
first woman councillor. Others
elected were Clifford Bray 242
and Donald Martin 317. The
two other candidates were Wm.
Moses 238 and George Wiesen-
berg 149.
RE TURNED IN MORRIS
In Morris Twp. the present
council was returned. They are
Tom Miller, 306, Ross Smith
291, Robert Grasby 262. The

candidate was David Hastings Jr.
who polled 240 votes.

TRUSTEES ELECTED
Trustees Don McDonald and
Wilfred Shortreed were re-elec-
ted as members of the Huron
Board of Education representing
Morris, Grey and Brussels at
the polls on Monday.
Mr. McDonald led the polls
in Grey 'and Brussels and Mr.
Shortreed in Morris. Total votes
were McDonald 1032, Shortreed
841 and the third candidate Ted

First woman councillor
heads polls in Grey
A grade 13 student at the,
South Huron DistrictHigh School,
Exeter, Beth Passmore was
named the All-Round 4-H
member at Huron County's 25th
annual 4-H Achievement Night
held in Clinton Friday night.
Beth, the 18 year old daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Pass-
more, R.R.3, Exeter, won the
Robert. McKinley Citizenship
Trophy awarded annually for
participation in 4-H, home and
community activities.
For completion of 24 4-H
agricultural projects, with a
proficiency rating of over 75
per cent in each of them, she
earned a 4-H award certificate
donated by the county's 4-H
Club Leaders Association.
A total of $1000 in cash,
along with certificates, plaques,
awards and prizes was presented
to 350 4-H members from across
the county who this past season
formed 28 clubs. Presentation of
the special awards was made by
the county's agricultural repre-
sentative Don Pullen, Clinton.
A 90 percent completion was
achieved among the members,
said Len. MacGregor, extension
assistant with the county branch
of the Ontario Ministry of Agri-
culture and Food. It was his job
to co-ordinate the 4-H agricul-
tural program, with the leader-
ship being provided by 65 vol-
unteer leaders.

The United Co-operatives of
Ontario BelgraVe Branch record-
ed its biggest gales in history
in 1971-72 with a gross business
of $606,822.
The encouraging news was
reported to members of the Bel-
grave branch at the annUalmeet-
ing on Friday night in Belgra.ve

manager. Mr. Lougheed told the
capacity audience at the combined
dinner, meeting and dance that the
president of the Huron County
4-H Club Leaders' Association
welcomed 600 persons who atten-
ded the event held at the Central
Huron Secondary School in Clin-
ton. Greeting from the Huron

over last year. Biggest area
of increase Was in fertilizer
where sales were up 40 per cent
over 1971, which in turn had
seen a 40 per cent increase from
the previous year. Fertilizer
sales totaled $192,888.
Mr. Lougheed said petroleum
sales also reached an all-time
high with 400,000 gallons pumped
through Belgra.ves.

County Board of Education were
relayed by its vice-chairman,
John Broaclfoot, R.R.1, Bruce-
field. Assisting in the program
with the presentation of awards
were Mike Miller, associate
agricultural representative, and
Sam Bradshaw, engineering
assistant both of the Ministry
office located in Clinton .
June Alton, R.R. 2, Luck-
now, who scored 935 out of a
possible 1000 points in the
Lucknow 4-H Calf Club, won the
C. S. MacNaughton Trophy for
having obtained the highest 4-H
score in the county, and the
Canadian Imperial Bank of
Commerce award for holding the
highest score in 4-H dairy clubs.
A 12 year old Seaforth girl,
Dianne Oldfield, captured the
Huron County's novice trophy,
donated this year by Elmer
Hayter, to the first year 4-H
member with the highest score.
Dianne's older brother,
Brian, as the champion 4-H dairy
showman, took the A.Y. McLean
trophy.
Six special awards went to
the Ed Miller family at R.R. 3,
Exeter. Brian,forhaving achieved
the highest score in 4-H beef
clubs received the Anstett award;
for the highest score, excluding
score on Hereford calf, the Huron
Hereford Association award and a
Blatchford Feeds Ltd., trophy,
for the highest score in judging
competition. Barry - Miller won
the Huron Hereford Association
trophy for his championship
Hereford calf, and the Cook Divi-
sion of Gerbo Corporation trophy
for his championship white bean
exhibit. Their sister Barb held
the highest score in the Exeter
Sweet Corn Club, earning her
the Canadian Canners trophy.
Three daughters of Mr. and
Mrs. Keith Tyndall, R. R. 4,
Clinton each took home a special
award. Susan took the Blyth
Agricultural Society and Blyth
Lions Club trophy for the
highest score in the Blyth-Bel-
grave 4-H Beef Club; Karen won
a Canadian National Exhibition
shield as the high novice judge
in judging competition, and their
11 year old sister, Wendy, with
