leader, Mrs. Brady, visited Huronview on Family Night.
and provided a variety program., Marion Melick intro-
duced the program which included group singing by the
girls; dance numbers by icimmY Brady, Heather Brea-
der; banjo solos by Marie Balton; violin solos by Paula
Butler, accompanied at the piano by Marlene McDougal.
Mrs. Christina Thompson thanked the guides and their
leader on behalf of the residents. The girls assisted
the volunteers with wheel chairs and had a, brief tour of
the home.

Huron County follows the
pattern across Canada and in
Ontario Where farms are
becoming fewer but the number
with gross sales of $5,Q00 or
more is increasing.
Information frern the 1971 cen-
sus compares numbers of farms
with those in 1906, the time of
the last census. In Canada in1966
there , was 430.522 farmS. BY
19'71 that, had dropped 15 per
cent to 066,128.
In Ontario, the comparative
figures were 109,887 farms in
1966 and 94,722 in 1971, a 13.8
per cent drop.
However, farms with sales of
$5,000 or more increased.
Across Canada, the 1966 total
with $5,000 or more sales was
191,086 and in 1971 that number
went up 1,8 per cent to 195,305.
The comparative figures for cm-
tario are 51,715 in 1966 and
52,351 in 1971, a. 1.2 per cent
increase.
Total area of land for farming
has decreased across Canada and
in Ontario. In 1966, there were
174,124,828 acres of farm land
in Canada. By 1971 that had
dropped to 169,668,614, a drop of
2.6 per cent. In. Ontario, the
figures show 17,826,045 acres in
1966, and 15,963,056 acres in
1971, a drop of 10.5 per cent.
Again, however, acreas of
farms with $5,000 sales or more
are up, in Canada and Ontario, In
1966, such farmland across
Canada amounted to 115,746,950
acres, and in 1971, 124,350,448
acres, a 7.4 per cent increase.
In Ontario, the similar figures
show 10,196,855 acres in 1966
with sales over$5,000, and 10-
903,293 acres in 1971, a jump
of 6.9 per cent.
Huron County had 4,565 farms
in 1966 and 4,213 in 1971. Areas
of these farms totalled 752,043
acres in 1966 and 742,965 in1971.
Farms with sales of $5,000 or
more in Huron totalled 2,948 in
1966 and 3,104 in 1971. Areas
of these farms are 588,691 acres
in 1966 and 639,191 acres in
1971.
