wholly original in the minds of those who

severe upon the jokers, but they im-

too much for our excellent landlord, and
to preserve the moral of the press, to
the great comfort of the flesh, gener-

The question is how far back you can
remember 1. DeQuincy tells what most
people would call a yarn about himself,

Newspaper Laws.
We Ball the special attention of post-
masters and subscribers to the following
synopsis of the newspaper laws :
L A postmaster is required to give
notioe by letter (returning a paper does
not answer the !awl when a subscriber
does not take his paper out of the office,
and state the reasons fur is not being
taken. Any neglect to do so stakes the
Kraster responsible to the publishers
payment. -
2. If any person orders his paper dis-
continued, he must pay all arrearages,
or the publisher may continue to send it
until payment is made, and collect the
whole amount, whether it be taken from
the oftioe or not. There can be no legal
discontinuance until the payment is
made.
9. Any person who takes a paper from
the post -office, whether directed to his
name or smother, or whether he has sub-
scribed or not, is responsible fur the pay.
4. If a subscriber orders his paper to
be stopped at a certain time, and the
publisher continues to send, the sub-
scriber is bound to pay for it if he takes
it out of the post -office. This proceeds
upon the ground that a man must ray for
what he uses.
5. The courts have decided that refut-
ing to take a newspaper and periodicals
from the poet -office, or removing and
leaving them uncalled for, is prima firia
evidence of intentional fraud.
