Huron County Schools as well as to curb the abuse of drugs in the county schools, especially as it relates to the pupil population, was passed Monday evening in Clinton at the board's regular November meeting. The policy sets forth that the curriculum will Include such pro- grams as will ensure that students are made aware of the physical and psychological dang- ers incurred through the improper and illegal use of drugs. Principals, teachers and non- teaching school employees will be requested to co-operate fully with law enforcement agencies and report to them any infor- mation that would be beneficial in their efforts to stem the in- crease in illegal use of drugs. Workman and Cheryl Mc- Cutcheon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank McCutcheon. Pauline Cardiff, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cardiff, re- ceived the award for Proficiency in Home Economics. These awards were obtained for highest marks in Grades 12 and 13. ing upon the campus of any school in possession of or under the influence of illegal drugs of any kind, or attempting to sell or use illegal drugs on the campus of any school shall be suspended forthwith and the facts reported immediately to the Director of Education. Principals will then present to the board, for consideration or expulsion or dismissal, the name or names of any pupil or employee convicted of an offence involving drugs. In a brief discussion about the drug problem believed to exist in the county schools, Chairman R.M.ElliOtt told the board that there is some speculation among parents as to whether or not the recent drug film shown in the high schools by the Huron County Health Unit served any useful purpose. He , said that it is the opinion of some parents that students need something "to scare them". They should see "the gory de- tails of results of drug abuse habits", Elliott felt. James Coulter, superin- tendent of program and planning, said that the Art Linkletter film recently in the high schools was "really not very instructive". He said the county schools are planning to purchase a film which he described as considered superior to the Linkletterfilm. OPP report accidents Recent investigations carried out by the OPP of Wingham de- tachment include: Three investigations under the Liquor Control Act with three persons charged. Seven charges laid under the Higway Traffic Act with seven warning issued. Thirty-one investigations un- der the Criminal Code with one person charged. On November 14, Herbert H. Bolton of R.R.1, Seaforth was the winner of the world hay championship, as part of the field creps competition at this year's Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. The Brussels Lions Club have decided to try once more and sponsor "Polar Daize" hoping that this year the weather will be more favourable. It will be held from February 23rd, to Feb. 26th. There are many who look forward to these fun filled days and will be glad to know, that in spite of the bad weather that has plagued this ev- ent, the Lions are going to gamble on the weather and again attempt "Polar Daize". This is a healthy sign for any, community. With several new -candidates coming forward with nominations one hears considerable discussion on the qualifications, or otherwise, of the candidates involved with strong feelings expressed on both sides of the question. What the outcome will be will be decided by the voters on election day, December 4th.
