Correspondent Mrai,Lewis, $tOnehouse The grade 8 class of East • Wawanosh,Public'School pre- sented a Remembrance DaY Cerempny on friday for the School. Bob Mitchell played the organ for the prelude as classes filed into the gymnasium. Terry Armstrong read the Scrip- ture after which the class sang The Lord's Prayer, in three parts. Doreen Taylor recited the story "Cher AMP'. Mayor De Witt Miller of of Wingham spoke to the audience about his experiences related to the War and how proud men from Canada were, to be "Can- adians". ' A filmstrip about Remem- brance Day was narrated by Manny Wightman. This was followed by a story, O'Day of the Battlefield" recited by Harry J aretzke. Sentences of Remembrance were given by Cliff Branton, Grace Gingrich, Howard Roberts, Janice Coultes, Oscar Meier, Heather Currie and Bernie Hai- nes. A poem "An Honoured Son',' was recited by the whole class. Wreaths were.placed in front of the Cross by Barry Edwards, Susan Swanson and Bill John- ston. Flags were carried by Danny Hunter and Mark Taylor. “Last Post, two minutes si- lence, and Reveille", were fol- lowed by a dedication given by Joanne Bakelaar. The class sang tiO Valiant Hearts," Piano accompaniments were played by Marjorie Nixon and Brenda Nethery. The assembly closed with 0 Canada. Organ postlude was played by Bob Mitchell. Grade 7 Assembly The grade 7 class of East wawanosh Pulilic school present- ed a humourous assembly, de- picting the fantastic feat of stren- gth and endurance at the Bel- grave Olympics. Everybody took part in the play. It was opened with "O Canada". Marni Walsh was the lady chairman who introduced the sports and the athletes involved. She also played the part of "Her- man the Reporter" in the "Met- ropolis of Belgrave". The following is the rest of the cast in the order that they performed: Gymnastics - Gary Hopper, E. Wayne Campbell Cyclists - Lori Thompson, Mary Ellen Elston, Paty Scott Equestrian - Shiela Shobbrook, Lynne Haines, Allison Roberts Referee - Brian Fidom Javelin Thrower - Lyle Bridge Injured Spectator - April Mc. Burney • Doctors - Donald Bakelaar, Laurie Haines Nurse - Beta Lynne White Weight Lifting-StevenRobinson Weight Lifters Helper and ad- mirer - Lori Thompson Boxing - Donny Shiell, David Watt= Wrestling - Donald Dunbar, Dean Campbell. Boating - Karen Scott, Connie Meurs, Spencer Burley, Kitty Hartlieb, Cam McCallum. swimming Betty Meurs, Janet Cook, Lynne Bridge (they also sang (or Chirped) Rubber Ducky Golf - Scott Lougheed and Wes- ley Kippfer All persons not mentioned, in the above cast assisted in draw- ing murals, stage crew etc. Euchre Thirteen tables of euchre were played in the Belgrave Com- munity rooms last Wednesday evening. Winners are as fol- lows; High lady - Mrs. Gershorn Johnston, Low lady - Mrs. Ed- gar Wightman, Novelty lady- Mrs. Hugh Itinn, High man - Charles Brewer - Low man - Earl Noble, Novelty man - Ger-" shdrn Johnston Entertains A reception and dance was held in the Women's Institute Hall on Friday evening in honour of the newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. George M. Johnston (nee Mary Grasby) of London. Music ,was supplied by the "Alley Cats". After lunch was served the young couple were asked to come to' `the'' friant 'When' Geolte A. Johnston read an address and James Coultes presented them with a gift of money. Both George and Mary made fitting replies. Unit Meets The Evening Unit of the U.C.W. met in the church base- ment with 18 present. Mrs. Harold Vincent opened the meeting and announced the next meeting to be held at the home of. Mrs. Ross Anderson with Mrs. Cliff Logan's group in charge of the worship, Mrs. Wil- liam Coultes the program and Mrs. Ross Anderson's group the lunch. Mrs. William COultest group served lunch, 4H club BELGRAVE 111 The last meeting of Bel- grave 111 was held in the base- ment of Knox United Church. The meetings ended with a Buf- fet Party. Beef Stroganoff, Tuna Tettra- zina, Spaghetti and Meat Balls. Tossed Salad, 5 cup salad rolls, Macaroni and Cheese, ,Chocolate Fondue, coffee, tang and a rel- ish dish was served at the party. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Jamie- son recently attended the wedding of their niece Diane Jamieson to Allan Bursy of Richmond Hill in St. Matthew's United Church in Richmond Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Maitland Edgar and family of Petrolia were Sun- day visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Roger Bieman also visited with his sister Mrs. Charles Johnston of Blyth who is a patient in Wingham and District Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. John Spivey and family of Ingersoll visited on Sunday with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Harold Procter. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce. Marshall of London visited on Saturday with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Cook, Miss Verna Johnston of Sar- nia was a Saturday visitor with Miss Nora Van Camp. Quite a number from this locality attended ladies night of R.B.P. 1226 Blyth at Snell's res- taurant, Westfield on Friday, November 10th. Mr. Albert Vincent received word that his ,cousin Eddie Vin- cent of Saskatchewan passed away on Friday, November 10th. Mr. and Mrs. William Kelly of Seaforth visited last Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Vin- cent. Miss Shirley Gray of Toronto, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard James also attend- ed the Commencement at the F. E. Madill Secondary School on Friday night, Robert and Gordon Gray of Kitchener were weekend visitors. with. Mr. and. Mrs. Leonard. James. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard James, and Miss Shirley Gray visited on Saturday night with Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Johnston of Paisley. Mr. and Mrs. Robert' Hib- berd visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Hibberd of R.R. 3 Harriston and were entertain- ed by their family at the Sev- en Gables restaurant, Listowel and were presented with an el- ectric fry pan on the occasion of their 35th wedding, an- niversary. This community was shock- ed to learn of the death of Mrs. Julia McNeil who passed away Sunday morning in the Wingham and District Hospital. Our sym- pathy is extended to her son Michael. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Vin- cent spent a few days last week , with Mr. and Mrs. William Kelly. Mr. Albert Vincent is spend- ing a few days with Mr. and Mrs. George Hillark of Zurich and will attend the funeral of his cousin Albert Vincent of park- hill at the Da,shwood funeral home. Weekend visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby were Mr. and Mrs. Gary Leitch, Julie and Jeffrey, Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Christen all of London, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Armstrong of Thorndale, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Roberts and Mrs. Hilda Roberts of Listowel. Attend Seaton Meeting Harold Bolger, in-coming president of Brussels Agrionl- tural Society, and the secretary- treasurer, FdWin Martin, attend- ed the annual meeting of the Ont- ario Association of Agricultural Societies, District 8. The meeting was held in the peaferth District High School on November 9th.
