The latest increase in the
price of cigarettes to come later
this month, probably another
per pas, will perhaps provide
the final incentive for us weak-
willed cigarette smokers to
((kick the habit". No one,surely,
now doubts that cigarette smoking
is Injurious to health. Unfortun-
ately there are those, who for
some reason, cannot summon up
the necessary will power to stop
Sending up in smoke money that
could be put to better use, in-
stead of damaging their health.

Brussels voters will be balled
on to choose a reeve, four coun-
cillors and two P.U.C. commiss-
ioners at the municipal elections
on December 4th.
When the period for resigning
had expired at 5 o'clock Tuesday,
two had been nominated for the
reeveship, seven for council and
three for the P.U.C. The can-
didates are:

destroys
large barn
A large barn on the farm of
Alex Gulutzen Sr., concession
17, Grey Township, was totally
destroyed by fire on Wednesday
night of last week.
Also lost in the blaze were
a number of pigs and calves and
the entire season's 'crop of hay,
straw, and grain. The flames
spread to an adjacent small build-
ing.
Fire departments of both Grey
Township and Brussels were
called to the scene but were un-
able to save the barn with the
flames fanned by 'the high wind.
However, firemen were able to
prevent the spread of the fire
to other nearby buildings includ-
ing the house.
The cause of the fire has not
been determined and no estimate
of the amount of the damage was
available it time of writing.

Crash kills
Grey farmer
This community was. shocked
by the fatal car-truck crash that
claimed the life of Dennis Paul
Ducharme, a thirty year old re-
sident of R.R.2, Brussels.
The accident took place on
Huron County Road 16, approxi-
mately 2 miles east of Brussels
at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The truck
rolled over several times. Mr.
Ducharme was thrown out.
The pickup truck he was driv-
ing was involved with a car driv-
en Iv Wm. Grant, also of R.R.2,
Brussels, who was not• injured.
Three year old Michelle Du-
charme, niece of the dead man,
who was a passenger in the Du-
charme vehicle was treated
at Wingham and District Hosp-
ital and released. '
Brussels Lions Club was re-
presented at a recent meeting of
Community Service Clubs who
provide assistance to crippled
children and conduct Easter Seal
Campaigns in the counties of
Perth and Huron.
At the meeting in Clinton
called by the Ontario Society
for Crippled Children, service
club representatives met with
Society personnel to discuss
plans and preparations for the
1973 Easter Seal Campaign.

Legion Cenotaph at 10:30 a.m.
Saturday when those whO paid
the supreme sacrifice were
honored in remembrance.
The service, under the direc-
tion of Zone Commander Ted
Elliott, was conducted by the
Legion Padre, Rev. Eric Le-
Drew of Brussels United Church.

the 1973 Easter Seal Campaign
objective will be over 1 1/2
million dollars which will pro-
vide approximately 50% of the
overall Society budget for 1973.
It was pointed out that the total,
budget of over $3,000,000 needed
to meet the Current needs of
almost 15,000 handicapped child-
ren works out at only a Weekly
average expenditure of just under
$4.00 per child for 1973.

Brussels Lions plan
for crippled children
