been appointed to fill the vacancy in the I _
third division of the Brussels Public
School. Miss Watson is a young lady of
superior ability, and distinguished her-
self as a student, during her attendance
at the Seaforth High School. •We con-
gratulate the trustees of the Brussels
School on their wise selection.
RetiswAY.-It is not very.eften that
these accidents occur. But on Monday
morning last as Mr. McFaul, principal
• of the Public School, was driving along
the Northern gravel road, his horse be-
came frightened and ran away. For-
tunately Mr. McFaul escaped without
any injury other' than receiving a good
coat of the liquid mud.

and the display is very beautiful. So

STRANGE TRANSFORMATION. -One of
our young bloods -who, by the way is
very fond of apples -bought recently a
barrel for his winter's use. He rolled
them home and left thein out doors dur-
ing the night. The first thing in the
morning he went to pay them a visit,
and found to his aatontahtnent that a
metamorphosis had apparently taken
place, for the apples were all turned into
stones and straw. Our friend doesn't
believe in miracles, but he most decid-
edly believes in corporal punishment to
all practical jokers.
SaooTlso ACCIDENT.-Oi Thursday
of last week, Isaac Hamlin, aged fifteen,
accidently shot himself in the leu, the
ball entered the left thigh, but owing to
the muscles in the act of contraction
which oppose an obstacle to the passage
of an instrument in the direction the
ball has taken, the physician has been
unable to find it. l appily no large ar-
tery is injured, and the load is supposed
to be bodged in the fleshy part of the
thigh. At last accounts the patient was
getting along nicely, and under the skil-
ful treatment of Dr. Hutchison we be-
speak for hint a speedy recovery.
