Institute learns of Maitland authority work.
The'Majestic w. I under the
convenership of Mrs. Adrian Mc-
Taggart and Mrs. Tom Strachan
met in Brussels Public Library
on Thursday evening.
Mrs. Strachan took charge of
the program and called on Andy
McBride of Wroxeter. of the M.V.
C.A. who discussed his work.
The ,Authority was formed in
1954 and comprises 29 munici-
palities with an area of 985 sq.
miles in the Maitland Water-
shed. Their funds are limited
65% from the Ontario government
and the remainder from each
municipality according to its
assessment. Some of their work
consists of flood, erosion and
pollution, control; wild life pre-
servation and beautification of
the land.

Mr. McBride showed a nuniber
of colour slides of the work of
the Authority and answered ques-
dons.
Mrs. Marie MCCutcheOn gave
a PaPer on the motto, "Let us
not forget to be kind". This was
followed by current events given
by Mrs. Norman McLarty. The
new grading of beef cattle accord-
ing to fat depth; food prices up
9.7% and the Dominion election
October 30th were a few items
discussed.
Happy Birthday was sung for
two members, Mrs. L.Machan
and. Mrs. G. Stephens.
A detailed report of the W.I.
Fall Rally held in Auburn on
Oct. 2nd, was given by Mrs. Carl
Hemingway. Progress in all
activities was noted. The guest
speaker was Mrs. C. Diamond
who told many interesting facts
about Oslo, Norway where she
attended the A.C.W.W. meeting.
Mrs. Leona. Armstrong con-
ducted the business. The short
course on the bedroom and bath
will be held in the Library on.
Nov. 14th. Guelph area conven-
tion is Nov. 2nd and 3rd at
Stratford. Those wishing to go
are to call Mrs. Leona Arm-
strong.
The Huronview Tea is Wed.
Nov. 8th. Ten dollars was
donated to the ladies division of
the Fall fair and $5. to the CNIB.
It was decided to have card
parties through the winter and
the first, a dessert euchre is
set for Nov. 6.
Mrs. Earl Cudmore demon-
strated the making of a number
of cookies and books containing
her recipes were given out.Some
of the cookies were sampled at
lunch which was served by Mrs.
Jim Smith, Mrs. Carson Wat-
son and Mrs. Ada Armstrong.
