the topic on the "Use and abuse
Of drugs." Business included
apprOval of a donation to the
blind. The Fall Conference is
set for Stratford and pyjamas
and mitts are needed for the
Children's Aid. It was agreed
not to take part in aShort Course
at Cranbrook. Lunch was served
by Mrs. Carl McDonald and the
hostess.
HONOR BRIDE TO BE
A miscellaneous shower was
held Thursday evening in the Uni-
ted Church basement for Shirley
Ann Raymond. Jackie Grey was
in charge of the guest book. Con-
tests were conducted by Miss
Gloria Jacklin, Mrs. Geo Pearson
and Mrs. Chester Earl. Shirley
Ann, her mother and the groom's
mother, Mrs. William Bremner
were brought to the front and an
address was read by Miss Gerry
Lynn. Helping with the gifts were
Miss Gall Lake. Shirley Ann
received many gifts after which
she gave a fitting reply and in-
vited all to her new home in Lis-
towel. Lunch was served by Mrs.

The U.C.W. of Ethel United
Church held their September
meeting at the home of Mrs.
Chester Earl. Mrs. B. Todden
opened with a poem followed by
the worship service taken by
Mrs. Chester Earl. Mrs. W.F.
Hewitt took the topic and Mis-
sions. Business was led by Pres.
Mrs. B. Godden 'aid the roll call
answered by naming a mis-
sionary.
Bills were dealt with and the
next meeting is to be held at the
home of Mrs. W. F. Hewitt.
Lunch was served by Mrs. wm.
Dobson and the hostess.

MELVIN S. BECKER
Melvin S. Becker of Cran-
brook passed away in Listowel
Memorial Hospital on. Tuesday,
October 3rd, after a lengthy ill-
ness. Formerly of Route 1,
Ayr, Ontario, he was 6 2 years
of age.
Born in Roseville, he was a
son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Albert Becker. Mr. Becker oper-
ated the general store in Cran-
brook for the past 1 1/2 years
and had formerly farmed at Route
1, Ayr, for many years.
He was formerly a member of
the Ontario Hog Producers
Board; a board member of the
Federation of Agriculture and
active in many agricultural
groups in the province for many
years. He was a member of
the Roseville United Brethren
Church.
He was predeceased by his
wife, the former Florence Mac-
Neil in 1957 and by a brother,
Elmer.

chener, daughters, Joyce Mrs.
Richard Poth) Woodstock; Beth
(Mrs. Donald Poth) New Dundee;

The funeral service was
held from the chapel of the Ratz-
Bechtel Funeral Home, Kitchener
on Friday, October 6th at 2p.m.
with. Rev. Ray Zimmerman offic-
iating. Interment took place in
