Place second
in tourney at
Thamesford
Last weekend saw Ritchie's
Rockets travel to Thamesford to
play in 1st annual Thamesford
Optimists' Fastball Tournament.
In the 12:30 game they played.
Banner and defeated them by the
score of 8 - 1. Murray Mc-
Donald was the star of the game
knocking in 5 runs on a two man
homer and a double with the
bases loaded.
In their second game, the
Rockets slipped by Thamesford
the score of 2 - 1. This was a
real pitchers' duel between Neil
Gowing of the Rockets and Rick
Learn of Thamesford. The Rock-
ets scored a run in each of the
first 2 innings providing enough
to win the game.
At 8:00 the Projectiles met
Fletcher and Jewitt in the final
coming out on the losing end of
a '7 - 3 score. The Rockets
didn't come home empty-handed
though, winning twenty-five dol-
lars as runner-up. Also Ken
Ritchie won a trophy as being
named most valuable player in
the tournament.
The. Rockets showed great
bustle and spirit going as far
as they did and are sure to return
next year to win it all.
P. S. The first game was marred
by a collision in the outfield
between Frank Stretter and Tom
Reyell of the Rockets. Frank has
a real shiner to prove it. This
accident seemed to instill more
fire for the Rockets to continue
on.
