The Brussels Centennial Ball
Tournament continued this week
end, Saturday, Sunday and Mon-
day, though somewhat dampened
by rain the last two days.
However, • the teams arrived as
scheduled and play went on with
some good games for the fans to
enjoy. It also brought a con-
siderable number of visitors to
the village and business, par-
ticularly to the restaurants and
hotels. In spite of the inclement
weather there was a good atten-
dance for most games.

Telephone users in the
Brussels - Blyth - Auburn area
are going to pay more for tele-
phone service as of September
1st.
Maitland Teleservice Limited
announced Thursday in a letter to
customers that rates would be
increased approximately 5%. An
exception is in residence exten-
sion phones where the increase is
20% from $1.05 to $1.25.
This means that an individual
business phone in Brussels and
Blyth will cost $7.65 per month
or $91.80 per year up from $7.30
per month. An individual resi-
dence phone is up 20 cents per
month. Basic rates in Auburn,
while somewhat less, are in-
creased proportionate amounts.
Manager goes
to Kitchener
K. G. Rupert who has been
manager of Maitland Teleser-
vices Limited at Brussels since
March 1971 has returned to Bell
Telephone Company at
Kitchener. He came from Bell
to the Brussels position.
A spokesman in the Brussels
office on Tuesday said no suc-
cessor to Mr. Rupert had been
named.
The company attributes the
necessity for the increases to
increased operating costs and
construction expenditures re-
quired for dial and outside plant
improvement.
The company has applied to
the Ontario Telephone Service
Commission for approval of the
new rate structure. Objections
to the rate increases may be
registered with the Commission
prior to August 18.
