In scanning the Zurich Citizens News we note an item
in the Bayfield news which tells of a sizeable donation
being made to Bayfield Lions Club by Loyal. Orange Lodge
in Varna, to help defray the cost of busing children to
swimming classes, in Clinton. --- Still in the Bayfield
news, Bill Sturgeon and Mrs. B.H.F. Gairdner marked
their 91st and 80th birthdays respectively this month.---
St. Boniface CWL plan a pilgrimage to the Shrine at
St. Marys, August 17th. Mrs. Jerome Sweeney and Mrs.
Mozart Gelinas are in charge of the arrangements,
The Blyth. Standard reports the Agricultural Society
is busy with plans for their fall fair. One of the high-
lights will be an improved barrow show. Adrian Vos
has agreed to take charge of this show and plans changes
from other years. The horse show will have $1,500
in prizes.
Wil-Dex plant held open house last week, according
to the Clinton News-Record, when more than 400 people
went through the plant. Wil-Dex, which is. Clinton's
newest plant, employs 23 local people in the manufacture
of precision tools and carbides.---Clinton has a new
Recreation Director. He is Norton Irwin and he will
be responsible for handling all of Clinton's recreational
.needs. He succeeds Doug Andrews who went to Ilderton.
The Wingham Advance-Times reports a major and
ambitious long range plan for Howick Township and the
Villages of Wroxeter, Gorrie and Fordwich to be under-
taken over a ten - year period is announced by Howick
Lions Club. The ten - year plan will begin immediately
and a central swimming pool to serve the villages and
the surrounding areas is to be built in Gorrie, the centre
of the area served. Cost of the proposed pool is about
$30,000 including landscaping, dressing rooms and access-
ories.
The Exeter Times - Advocate reports that a car
stolen Friday morning was found about an hour later
in the Ausable River in Exeter's Riverview Park. ---
The dynamiting of a silo on the property of Gib Dow
damaged several homes a few hundred yards away last
Monday. The silo itself was left standing. --- Exeter
jeweller Jack Smith -has rented his store to Simpson's
according to an announcement this week and will conduct
his watch repair and engraving business from his res-
idence. Simpson's already had rented their existing store
from Mr. Smith who built the building housing the two
businesses 22 years ago when he moved here.
Goderich Signal-Star reports that this year's
Summerfest, to be held July 27; 28 and 29 will be one
filled with the excitement of a carnival. There will be
entertainment galore, art exhibits from all over south-
western Ontario, a midway, showers of flowers and food
stops a plenty. The Art Club,whichhas been sponsoring
the event for eleven years now, will be showing exhibits
of paintings from Sarnia, London, Windsor and the Toronto
area. Craft displays in pottery, sculpture and ceramics
will be there. --- For the Vrst time Goderich was repre-
sented in the annual Mackinaw race on Lake Huron as
"The Butterfly" owned by Bruce Sully, took part in the
300 mile competition. Word was received just before
press time that "The Butterfly" was the last boat to
finish under sail in the race, ar.1 would be awarded the
unofficial "Pickle Boat" for it s efforts. The crew
included Bruce Sully, Bruce McDonald, Jack Needham,
John Hughes, all of Goderich, David Clark of Gorrie and
Jim Flowers of Woodstock.

Miss Janet Blake was enter-
tained with a shower held in her
honour by classmates and
friends at the home of Miss
Gail Traviss.
A progra mme of games and
contests was carried out and
Miss Kathy Blake read an
address, after which Janet was
presented with a selection of
useful' gifts. Janet made a suit-
able reply thanking everyone for
their thoughtfulness and gifts.
Lunch was served, prepared by
Mrs. Traviss.
Also' On July 1:0, 1972 the
staff of Callendar Nursing Home
honoured Janet with a shower
held at the home of Mrs. Gordon
Blake.. A social evening was held
with games and prizes. Miss
Judy White presented Janet with
best wishes from everyone and
a bride's book that she had pre-
pared . Janet received a gold
clothes hamper and matching
bathroom scales, along with a
basket of pantry articles from
the staff. Lunch was served by
the hostess assisted by Miss
Gail Searle, Miss Judy White,
and also Misses Kathy and Rose-
mary Brake.
